Sofia Rotaru is a name that has not been leaving people around the country for decades. Her songs became a symbol of the whole era, and the hit "Red Ruta" has long turned into an unofficial anthem of Ukraine. But today the artist has almost disappeared from the public space. And this is not a whim of the star - the war changed everything.

Stayed next to Kiev

At the beginning of a full -scale invasion of Rotaru clearly stated her position: she did not run and stayed in the capital. On social networks, the singer wrote that she was hearing the explosions of Russian missiles and praying for Ukraine every day. Then there was silence - no concerts, interviews or new projects. This silence immediately picked up Russian propaganda, dissolving rumors about the "escape" of an artist from Ukraine. But later Sofia Mikhailivna made it clear where her heart and home: she asked people to help the families of the Ukrainian military and confirmed that she was in Kiev.

Life in the shade

For several years the singer has avoided cameras. It can rarely be seen in public, but from time to time it shares short messages on social networks. There are words of support for Ukrainians, photos with family or touching footage from the grave of Anatoly Evdokimenko's husband. For many fans, these posts are the only relationship with the idol.

Her sister Aurika recently dispelled the main intrigue: Sofia lives in Kiev. “We are all scattered in different cities, but constantly in touch. Sofia is near us, she worries for the country, for people. And believe me, everything is well with it, ”Aurika said in an interview.

Personal pain

There is little about the personal life of the legendary artist. Her only man, composer and producer Anatoliy Yevdokimenko, with whom they lived together in 1968, died in 2002 after the stroke. Since then, Sofia Mikhailovna has never found other love, remaining true to her husband's memory.

Their son Ruslan is married, two children have two children: Anatoly Jr. and Sofia. It is their names that are most commonly appeared in the media.

Grandchildren in a new reality

Anatoly Evdokimenko's grandson recently found himself in the center of the scandal: at the beginning of the war, he was detained with his father while trying to leave Ukraine. Nevertheless, he still found himself abroad and is engaged in music, although he rarely speaks of events at home.

The granddaughter Sofia, named after her grandmother, also lives outside Ukraine. She has chosen a modeling career, actively leads a fashion blog and regularly shows subscribers to gorgeous images.

Why is the legend silent?

It may not only be about war. Sofia Rotaru has always been modest and unwilling to expose his personal life. Family, silence and prayer than loud scenes are more important to her. Or maybe it is her own way of protest - to remain silent when the words are powerless.

Her absence on stage is painful by those who grew up on her songs. But at the same time, there is a feeling that Rotaru speaks with us not in voice, but his presence in the country. She did not leave, did not turn away, did not renounce. And perhaps this is her greatest performance - to be close to the darkest times ...
