In a May 31 Joint press release , The offices of the County Prosecutor of the County of Ventura and the County of Santa Barbara announced that they had filed a civil affair against the Santa Barbara Superior Court in Santa Barbara against alleged violations against the false advertising of California and the laws on unfair competition.

The costume claims that Kroger "wrongly announced the calorie content" of his brand of brand carbmaster and white carbmaster bread.

Prosecutors allege that around November 2018 at least June 2022, the company "evidenced on the front packaging" of the two carbmaster bread products that they contained 30 calories per slice, while the labels of nutritional facts at the rear said that a slice actually contained 50 or more calories.

The trial also claims that at one point before June 2022, Kroger wrongly announced that the calories also count on the labels of nutritional facts. Food and Drug Administration of the United States (FDA) requires that Most food packages Have a label of nutritional facts and notes that companies are "responsible for the accuracy and conformity of the information presented on the label" of their products.

"Consumers are based on nutritional information to make important decisions about their personal health and well-being," said Ventura county prosecutor Erik Nasarenko said in a press release accompanying the press release.

"For some consumers, these decisions are based on medical need," he continued. "The false advertising of the calories can mislead, even in danger of consumers, and it offers an unfair advantage over competitors who advertise the directives of the FDA."

"Consumers are entitled to precise information on products, in particular calorie information on food", prosecutor of the district of Santa Barbara John Savrnoch said in a press release. "My office is committed to protecting the public by applying the false law on advertising and unfair competition law, and we are grateful to jointly pursue this case with the office of the County of Ventura."

But it seems that California prosecutors are not the first to notice this problem. A May 2022 Reddit Post highlighted the gap between 30 calories and 50 calories for Kroger's white carbmaster bread, with a user saying that they assumed that "the calories were false all the time and they are forced to change the label".

"Even more boring, the packaging says 30 calories," said a user in the wire.

Another said that it was not the first time that the grocer did it either.

"Kroger seems to have a lot of this kind of problem, they did the same with their Hamburger Keto breads last year," replied the Reddit user. "They were labeled like 50 calories, but unexpectedly, they doubled at 100 calories each."
