A homemade meal can do wonders - and it could even help you live longer. According to Francis' granddaughter, one of the favorite things of 114 years to do for most of her life was to cook for herself and for others.

"Whenever you go to her house, I don't care about the day of the week, she cooked", Harrison said ABC13 . "So I just think it had a lot to do with that."

She used a lot of her own ingredients.

Francis did not store the processed foods of grocery stores for his kitchen. Instead, she was all about fresh ingredients. Harrison said Today That her grandmother had a small garden in her backyard where she cultivated her own vegetables, including green cabbage, green mustards, carrots and gombo.

She then brought the products inside and cooked it, according to her granddaughter.

"I have cooked everything," said Francis. "If they eat it, I'm going to cook it."

"I have never seen her go to a fast food restaurant, like Chick-Fil-A and all the places I liked to go," Harrison told ABC13. "She never did that."

She has embarked on other healthy habits.

But the regime that Francis has followed is probably only one of the factors that contributed to his long life. When asked if she had already smoked or drunk alcohol, the 114 -year -old woman had a clear answer for ABC13: "No."

Francis also regularly made walks until she reached her 90s, said Harrison Today.
