"There is a narrow link between sedentary life styles and an increased risk of dementia," says Ceilo. So, what happens in your medial temporal lobe (or MTL-part of your brain forming new memories) when you spend a lot of time sitting?

A 2018 study of UCLA researchers, published in the Journal PLOS ONE, interviewed 35 people aged 45 to 75, and then gave them a high resolution MRI. They found thatProlonged periods paid to the session were associated with the thinning of the MTL and areas of this region. In addition, "sedentary behavior is a larger predictor of the brain structure, in particular the thickness [of the medial temporary lobe]," said the authors of the study.

The good news is that physical activity can counter the risk of being sitting too much - although it is not the only thing to do to counter the potential harmful effects to the brain.

Reducing the time you spend sitting, is just as important as doing exercise.

"The benefits of exercise are out of the graphics of your brain. It adds that the exercise leads to the release of what some neuroscientists call the "do not worry, be happy" receivers (more scientifically called endobanbinoids).
