The American woman who won the heart of Andriy Shevchenko: a love story across continents and years

How did an American model become a Ukrainian soul and why is this love story still going on for more than two decades?

Kristen Pazik and Andriy Shevchenko lived together for more than two decades, proving that true love does not recognize borders, languages or beliefs.

She is a businesswoman, a mother of four sons and a woman who always remains in the shadow of her husband, but carries the whole universe on her shoulders. Kristen was born far from football arenas and the glare of cameras — in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her childhood was spent talking about baseball: her father, Mike Pazik, was a star for the Minnesota Twins. When his career on the field ended, Mike became a coach—and it was probably from him that Kristen inherited her inner discipline and athleticism.

But Kristen's life took a different path. Her face adorned glossy covers, and her name was etched in the world of fashion — an American model with European charm quickly attracted the attention of designers. However, fate had another, much more romantic turn for her. In 2004, in Washington, she said "yes" to a Ukrainian football player, whose name was then known throughout Europe. They got married on July 14. This summer, the couple celebrated their opal wedding — 21 years together.

He is Orthodox, she is Catholic. But they are united by more than religion: deep respect for each other, mutual support and love. During the war, Kristen repeatedly expressed support for Ukraine, appearing at charity events, gatherings and actions. She came to her husband's country, met with volunteers, and every time she said that "there are now two Motherlands in her heart."

Kristen is not only the wife of a star, but also an independent businesswoman. Together with her sisters Kara and Marisa, she founded the menswear brand IKKON. We started modestly - with an online store, but already in 2014 we opened the first boutique in the USA. Today, their clothing brand is associated with taste, simplicity and quality. Sisters do not follow trends, but do things that will never go out of fashion.

The couple has four sons - Jordan (2004), Christian (2006), Alexander (2012) and the youngest, Ryder-Gabriel (2014). The eldest, Jordan, studies at Yale University, one of the most prestigious in the world. He not only studies there, but also actively helps Ukraine: he heads student fundraising for war victims. He inherited softness and openness from his mother, and purposefulness from his father.

Christian signed a contract with Tottenham in December 2022. Now he has Ukrainian citizenship and has already made his debut for the youth national team of Ukraine when he took the field against North Macedonia. His game is a combination of the British school and the Ukrainian heart. And perhaps this is precisely the main secret of the Pazik-Shevchenko family. They built a bridge between two cultures, two faiths, two worlds — and they did it beautifully.
