At the end of January, a 21 -year -old woman pregnant nine months died in an ambulance in front of the Northern Water Health Center in Espírito Santo, after being released by an obstetrician. Syang was almost 41 weeks pregnant, pregnant with Malya, when both died.

Complaining of shortness of breath, back pain and pain in the pelvic region. Her husband, Leandro, told the news portals that they were first served by a general practitioner in the city of Água Doce do Norte. The doctor then had to send her to Alceu Melgaço Filho State Hospital in Barra de São Francisco, because there was no one expert in obstetrics in the municipality of about 11 thousand inhabitants.

When they arrived in the neighboring city, at Alceu Melgaço Filho State Hospital, the obstetrician would have evaluated the state of Syang and done the examination of the touch to verify if there was any dilation that indicated the beginning of labor or a change in the lap from the womb. According to Leandro, the doctor concluded that the cervix was closed and there was no dilation, advising the couple returning home.

“She [Barra de San Francisco doctor] asked my wife to lie on the stretcher, tap her and said she was not dilating, that her uterus was closed and that she could return home. He said he had nothing much with her, ”said Leandro. He still questioned the shortness of breath: “I know it is normal when the pregnant woman is lying down, but not when she is standing. Even so, the doctor said that was normal, ”he said.

Neglect and death

They then returned home. Still on Sunday night, Syang was missing again, but more intensely. They went to the Northern Freshwater Health Center again, where she was attended by the doctor on duty who suspected it was something more serious. The doctor decided that she would need an urgent transfer to the State Hospital and called the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) with ICU request.

According to Leandro, the ambulance took 40 minutes until arrival and, at the scene, there was also a delay for Samu to take the pregnant woman to the neighboring city.

“They placed her inside the ambulance, which stood in front of the Health Center. The doctor massaged my wife for about 45 minutes, until at one point he left the ambulance and said that my wife had had a cardiac arrest and that my daughter had died too, ”said her husband.

He said that, from what was informed, the patient was in a very advanced stage of pneumonia. Samu's doctor would have said that to make the transfer, she would need to be intubated. However, when Leandro authorized the procedure, she had a cardiac arrest that led to her death.

He said he will seek justice so that the loss of his wife and daughter will not go unpunished. Leandro confirmed that Syang was already 40 weeks and four days of gestation.

“My daughter would be born on the 24th, when my wife would do 41 weeks of pregnancy. They did not pay attention to the clinical part of my wife, the shortness of breath. If she were in the hospital, under observation, the two would be alive. Now I'm without any of them, ”he lamented.

What the authorities say

According to the Health Department of Espírito Santo, during the first care at the State Hospital, all the necessary tests were done and the conclusion was concluded that the patient had no liquid loss and that the cervix was closed and without dilation. The organ stated that the patient was medicated for pain and was discharged after improvement.

The Civil Police of Espírito Santo reported that the case is under investigation. CRM-ES, for its part, stated that, in case of evidence of ethical lack, an ethical-professional process against the doctor who released the patient will be opened.

The Northern Freshwater City Hall decreed an official two -day mourning in the city after the tragedy.
