Participants evaluated others on a scale from one to 10.
A Mars study published in the journalBakeI found that wearing glasses could actuallymake you think Less attractive, as well as less confident. Interestingly, the study also revealed that glasses have made people less intelligent.
The participants were shown eight photos of four illustrated with and without glasses. The photos showed men and women of college with Arabic characteristics. The participants were then invited to assess each person illustrated on a scale of one to 10 with regard to attractiveness, confidence and intelligence.

The study focused on students.
A total of 517 students in Jordan, who were an average age of 22, participated in the study. Among the participants who evaluated the photos, 67% did not wear glasses themselves and 88% had not suffered from refractive surgery (commonly known as Lasik).
The authors noted that most of the studies evaluating the impacts of the glasses were carried out on western study samples, "and their results were variable". But in developing countries, this has not been as well assessed.
"The effect of wearing glasses on the perception of intelligence varied according to the different fields and ethnic groups," wrote the authors of the study. "Although our study has shown a negative impact on wearing glasses on the rating of intelligence, studies on Western populations have found a positive impact on the perception of intelligence for images and people wearing glasses , where this variability is probably due to different cultural associations with the wearing of glasses. "
They underlined a study in France, where glasses were associated with a "higher socio-professional status" and older studies on Western populations showing the positive impact of glasses on the perception of intelligence. They also drew attention to a potential "social stigma" about wearing glasses among the Jordanians and the potential to affect the results. Given this, experts say that the results should be taken with a grain of salt.
There are limits that must be addressed.
As with any research study, there are certain limits, and the authors of the study noted that they had not evaluated the effect of different glasses rims, facial characteristics or other components which could influence the perceptions of the 'Attractiveness. In addition, in the United States and other Western movies and television programs, glasses are regularly associated with intelligence, and it is only when someone takes off his glasses that he suddenly becomes beautiful or attractive . Experts sayBetter lifethat this factor, as well as the study pool, must be taken into account.
"This is a very limited study in terms of the population to which it applies", "Jay Serle, LMFT, PHD,clinical director Ohana luxury alcohol rehabilitation, explains. "I do not think that the study would necessarily apply, for example, to American or British students. There would probably be different results between the different populations due to different cultural associations with the wearing of glasses."
Song Queen, PHD, good vibrationsStaff sexologist, agree, adding that the researchers said they carried out the study to add "cultural context" and that it is specific to college students. "It is not generalizable knowledge; it is a point of data, and we cannot say by looking at the editorial staff if it has elements that would certainly make it non-girget," she said. "We must therefore be careful to refer to it."
