Soak your feet before applying a moisturizer.

There is a reason why manicists dip your feet for so long in a living room before a pedicure.Dermatologist and co-founder of Stryke Club Sheilagh Maguiness, MD, suggests soaking before applying a moisturizer to get your "nice and wrinkled" feet. Once you have done this, "the outer layer of the skin has actually expanded due to soaking water".

When your feet are wet, you can keep the water by applying a thick moisturizer to "lock all this hydration and help soften your feet and repair your skin barrier in this area".AE0FCC31AE342FD3A1346EBB1F342FCB

Make sure your feet are moisturized before bed.

Speaking of moisturizer, one of the best ways to make sure your heels remain ready for sandals is to hydrate every evening. Keep a robust moisturizer on your bedside table, which you apply before hitting the hay.

Certified dermatologist of the Council Kemmy MOKAYA, MD, recommends applying "thick creams and moisturizing ointments at night after cleaning your feet". She suggests "massage almond oil, coconut oil or olive oil followed by a thick layer of moisturizer". Once you have finished the routine, put cotton socks overnight so that the skin can absorb the moisturizer. (And to protect your sheets.)

If the only time you exfoliate your feet is during a pedicure, it may be time to introduce a scrub. MOKAYA suggests exfoliating with patients, buffers, sampling stones, foot files or other foot cleans, but warns "do not rub too hard to avoid damaging the skin".

Rosmy Barrios, MD, head of the anti-aging department at the IM clinic andmedical content At Health Reporter explains that "by eliminating the dead skin, you prevent cracks in the heels".

If the most difficult skin does not seem to soften, MOKAYA recommends considering chemical exfoliators, including salicylic acid, ammonium lactate, urea, glycolic acid and fruit acids like Citric and mischievous acid. These ingredients are often found in exfoliating creams and socks.

And it is also not necessary to skimp on professional exfoliation.Lilly Rojas, co-founder of New York's FirstOutdoor manicure lounge Lili and Cat, urges to increase exfoliation during your next pedicure. Ask for "additional softening treatments such as sugar, masks and lotions".

4

Don't forget the sunscreen!Suzanne Levine, DPM,Aesthetic podiatrist, podiatric surgeon and founder of Millennium Podiatry says that sunscreen "will keep your feet young".

MOKAYA Note: "In addition to using sunscreen regularly on your feet, also practice sun protection by covering your feet and looking from shade to outside." You probably do not realize that your feet burn before it is too late.

Wear protective and breathable shoes.

The second summer strikes, it is tempting to take out the flip flops, but Mokaya says to save them for special occasions and opt for comfortable and breathable shoes instead. "While sandals, flip-flops and other open shoes are comfortable in summer, they expose their feet to heat, sun and other elements impoverishing humidity," she warns. Choose shoes that protect the feet from the elements, especially for active people who are often outside or that move in a lively city.

Rojas agrees. "The best way to make sure you have smooth and feet heels for the beach season is to try to wear well-adjusted comfortable shoes," she confirms. "Only wear high heels on special occasions because they are guilty of giving you unpleasant corns and calluses."

6
Consider using DIY ingredients at home.

Although many products on the market do wonders, you can also cook a foot mask at home to help your heels stay gently. Barrios occasionally approves a mask of honey, which has "antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, so it cleans and heals injuries".

Rojas encourages the manufacture of a friendly homemade scrub with coconut oil and sugar, and promises you to see a difference. "The best time to try this is after your shower because your dry and dry feet have been softened," she said.

Coconut oil in particular is ideal for cracked heels. Barrios attributes hydration, an antimicrobial effect and the reduction in inflammation. Try it - Your heels will thank you.
