The difference between Scotch and Bourbon

Here's how the exemplated (and associated) strict liquors differ so that you do not look like an amateur command at the bar.

If so, can you say with confidence that you know the difference between the two? It's good if you're a bit safe, all this can be a little confusing. We called Danny Polise, co-founder ofPenelope Bourbon, to explain the difference between the two difficult liquors to avoid being stumbling from whiskey on the rocks or aclassic cocktail with either in it.

What is the main difference between Scotch and Bourbon?

"The main difference between Scotch and Bourbon is that Scotch is made in Scotland and Bourbon is manufactured in the United States," says polite. "Scotch and Bourbon are whiskeys. Scottish whiskey is spelled without" E ", while Bourbon whiskey has a" K "and" Y ".

Polise adds that the scotch is usually made from malted barley, while Bourbon is largely made of corn. Here are some of the whiskey qualifications must meet to be classified as Bourbon.

  1. Must consist of a mixture of grains of at least 51% corn. (According toAmerican Bourbon AssociationThe Mash invoice or the mix of grain used to produce the bourbon must be at least 51% corn. The other grains can be a mixture of rye, wheat or malted barley.)

How would you describe the taste of Bourbon compared to the scotch?

"Although there are many different tastes in both categories, Bourbon usually has a nice sweetness to that of corn and a little smoke of the barrel cart," says polise. "The scotch is sometimes described as having a taste of wood and fire, but without the traditional burn that some of the upper evidence bourbons have."

Some Bourbons are aged with barrels who once occupied beer, which allows a hint of beer to subtly accentuate the flavor of whiskey.Cradle of beer of the new Holland Brewing is an excellent example. After age in new American oak barrels, Bourbon then passes a little time in the barrel that the company uses to brew their dragon milk.
