This pantry staple caused an epidemic of e. coli, says CDC

Americans have been warned not to eatraw cake paste As officials survey an epidemic of multi-states ofE. coli which has been linked to a mixture of cakes.

On aNotice of inquiry Published by the disease control and prevention centers (CDC), 16 people in 12 states reported being infected by the same strain ofE. coli Between February 26 and June 21, 2021.

The current probe revealed that six of the individuals reported "tasting or eating a raw cake dough from a variety of cake mixtures." To date, no individual brand has been linked to the epidemic.

The sick people were all women who reached the age of two to 73, with a median age of 13 years. Seven people were then hospitalized and a developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a type of renal failure.

The CDC suggests that the number of diseases in this epidemic can be much higher than the number of cases reported so far. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported at that time.

"It's because many people are recovering without medical care and are not tested for E. coli," said the Agency in the Notice of Inquiry. "In addition, recent diseases can not be reported yet because they usually take 3 to 4 weeks to determine if a sick person is part of an epidemic."

Symptoms of aE. coliThe infection includes dehydration, diarrhea, fever and vomiting. If you believe you encounter possible symptoms, call a doctor immediately.
