By walking on the beach, a couple stumbles on a 131-year-old German treasure

Everyone has a preferred beach activity. For some people, he plays outdoor games, for some, it's water sports, while for some, it is simply lying down and relaxing in the sand. However, there are some people who enjoy a different type of activity, which is beach beach. Believe it or not, you can find hundreds of such people any day on a beach looking for treasure. They spend hours digging through the golden sand particles hoping to find a valuable object.
But sometimes, destiny works in a mysterious way. A person who may not seek that the Treasury can stumble over a valuable object, totally unconscious of its value. This was the case of the Illman family, which was walking the beach when they fell on a remarkable discovery.
Illman family
Kym Illman is an entrepreneur and an Australian photographer. He was born in the city of Adelaide, Australia. Married to Tonya Illman with two children, Kim has a perfect little family. Tonya is also a photographer and together, they roam the world with their cameras have placed in their hands, looking for their next great adventure.
Exit from Sunday
It was a brilliant sunny morning in Perth, Australia. Kym and Tonya had decided to surprise their children by taking them for a spontaneous outing. Their children are a big fan of the beach, so that's where they headed. Their house was in chaos, everyone busy packing his business and prepare for the excursion.
Wrap
Tonya was in the kitchen setting up a picnic basket. The island of cuisine was invisible under so much food, cut strawberries, grapes and other bays, a freshly baked baguette, Bretzel sticks, club sandwiches and of course, preferred ham sandwiches and Kym cheese.
On my way
Once everything was put together and packed in the car, the Illman family was ready to hit the road! The car radio played the last pop tunes and the laughter of the children filled the interior of the car. As they covered more distance, the Tours of Sky-Tops are slowly decreasing in the mirror and the tall trees welcomed them on the horizon.
Hump a bump
Things were going as planned when a sudden bump on the road resulted in a steep stop in the trip. KYM is released to inspect and found a flat tire. And as the destiny will have, they did not have a spare tire in the trunk. Tonya came out his phone and called for help.
Hours to save
The mechanic told Tonya that he will take him three hours to reach them. It is a Sunday that means it is very busy. Or maybe more lazy, who knows. But that means the family of four had more than three hours to lose and they will certainly not sit in the car for that a lot of time.
Deviation
KYM has found on a map that there is a beach about half a mile. This is not the one where they headed, but three hours at a random beach sounds better than three hours stuck in a car in the middle of nowhere. It was therefore decided that they will go to the beach until the mechanic arrives.
The beach
They reached the beach faster than they assumed. The ocean kissed the horizon for as far as their eyes could go. The sand had a nice hue of gold. The sun was bright but not hot, the breeze was fresh against their faces. It was so much better than waiting in the car for sure.
Find a place
The family has found a place with an outdoor umbrella and a bench where Kim has unloaded their business. The children wanted to go in the water, so Kym decided to join them, Tonya, on the other hand, decided to take a walk through the beach.
Litter
Even though Tonya was a big fan of beaches, she was not a fan of humans on the beach. They ruin everything. And she could also see the same result for this beach, she was unfortunate bad. There was no one by taking the responsibility of this. She firmly felt on such problems.
Environmentalist
Tonya Illman was an environmentalist. She cared about the planet and practiced ecological activities in her daily life. She teaches the same thing to her children too. She decided to do this a significant trip and went to get her family. It was time to clean this beach!
Sharing the plan
Tonya found his family just went out of the sea. "Perfect timing", she called for them. The trio was facing a confused appearance. Tonya shared his concern and plan for the remote beach. To his surprise, the children were excited to help!
Cleans it
The family started their little adventure, trying to clean the beach. All Tonya asked them to do was taking the objects and recovering them in a garbage bag, which they will send to recycle. The family has started collecting objects from the beach and putting them in their individual garbage bags.
Bottle
Tonya was busy collecting items when her eyes landed on a half-burned glass bottle in the sand. She reached and out of the ground. It was beautiful. The shape was so unique and the glass was opaque does not see through. He had some sort of registration on the surface, perhaps German. Tonya formed in just a few minutes.
To keep
Tonya decided to keep the bottle for herself. Maybe it will decorate it on its library or bedside table. She was not sure but she knew she wanted to keep it. So, instead of putting it in the garbage bag, she put it aside in his bag. Once it was out of the road, she continued with cleaning.
To finish
Eight bags of waste, the Illman family ended with cleaning. Tonya was immensely proud of everyone. They did such a wonderful job. The mechanic was here when they were busy cleaning, so the car was ready to go as well. Except that they were so tired, they decided to take a rain spray at the excursion.
Go home
They will plan their little trip for next weekend, but for now they wanted home. So, they put everything in the car and went back on the road. The children fell asleep in the rear seats almost halfway from the road. Once at home, they all came to bed after a long tiring day and fell asleep almost instantly.
The next day
Tonya was sitting on the porch sipping her second cup of coffee. She was busy reading the newspaper when she recalled the events of yesterday. She totally forgotten the glass bottle she reported at the house of this beach. She quickly got up to find it.
Coiled cigarette
Tonya took out the bottle of the bag and inspected it. It was undoubtedly. It was almost filled halfway with wet sand. But as Tonya slowly swept the sand, she noticed something through the dirty opaque glass. There was something inside the bottle. It looked like a slight cylindrical object, like a rolled cigarette. Except when she emptied the bottle, she found something completely different.
The message
A piece of rolled paper fell from the inside of the glass bottle. Tonya's eyes went wide, she picked it up hesitably. It was soggy to touch but wrapped closely. She did not know if she should open it. She decided to wait for her husband to come home. He will know what to do.
KYM reaction
KYM continued watching the bottle and the piece of paper again and again. It has been more than half an hour since he returned home. But even he was taken aback to this discovery. He was beyond curious so he decided they should open it. But it was so Soggy that they could not open it without tearing it. It's when Tonya had an idea.
Heat
Tonya decided to put the oven note and wait for it to be completely dry before trying to open it. She was not sure to work, she can simply put it on fire. But it was worth trying and frankly, their only option. But to his surprise, it totally worked! The note opened easily but what they found inside was confused, to say the least.
Note
The paper was about 8 to 6 inches of size and had a partially printed text and a partially manuscript text. More importantly, the thing the couple has noticed almost immediately was that the text was not English, it was German. Just like writings on the glass bottle.
Translate the text
The good news was that KYM has been able to translate key key points from this German text. The printed text asked the reader of the note to contact the German Consulate when he finds the bottle and the note. He also asked the reader to note the exact date and time when discovering the bottle before returning to the German Embassy.
Experiences
So, apparently, these bottles were launched boats for experimental and research purposes. The manuscript text was barely visible because most of them had faded. They could read the date on which the bottle had been thrown from the boat - June 12, but the year was not clearly visible. Kym believed he said '86.
The boat
The last thing Kim could decipher from the note was the name of the vessel from which this bottle was launched. The last letters of the name read, "A-U-L-a" to which his first estimate was the ship, Paula. But there was no way to know it for sure. The couple needed the help of some experts who could confirm the same thing.
Looking for help
KYM and TONYA decided to join the Australian Western Maritime Archeology Department. They believed that Dr. Ross Anderson would help them fill the whites of the message, it's the story and how she ended up at this beach.
Dr. Anderson
When KYM and TONYA presented the message to Dr. Anderson, they did not expect him to take them seriously at first. But to their surprise, not only did they just not convince him, but he was very excited to help them find answers. He took the note and put it under observation with a group of members of his team.
Deflect the story
To the surprise of Kym, Dr. Anderson confirmed his theory on the ship. The name of the ship was indeed "Paula". They confirmed the same thing by discovering recordings of the year 1883. From that moment, the story behind the message in the bottle started to unravel.
Paula
Paula was the name of a sailboat built in Germany. The ship's crew was a group of researchers who studied ocean currents and led experiments by dropping these messages in bottles in the sea. The last post was found in Denmark in 1934, but Tonya was the only one. Having found the message intact inside the bottle.
The newspaper
Dr. Anderson made incredible hollows and found a newspaper in the archives. It was the original meteorological journal of Paula. This newspaper took into account research and experiences. It was a piece of rare history. Dr. Anderson found an entry into this newspaper who was established in particular.
Entry
There was an entrance made on June 12, 1886, mentioning the record of a bottle that was thrown from the ship for experience. And according to Dr. Anderson, the coordinates and the date exactly correspond to the note found in the message inside the bottle. But that was not everything.
The trip
According to the archives, the bottle was thrown into the South-East Indian Ocean. During this period, the ship traveled from Cardiff to Wales in Indonesia. This is how it was washed on the Australian coast within 12 months he was buried under the sand until Tonya found it.
More similarities
The handwriting in the log was exactly the handwriting in the note, which confirms the validity of the note. Archaeologists could not believe that this bottle was just under their nose cooling on a beach of Western Australia and they never knew so far.
Experienced for decades
According to the newspaper, German researchers led these experiences for 69 years. During this period, researchers launched thousands of bottles including 662 messages were reported but no bottles. Tonya was one of the few who found the message intact inside the bottle without the bottle broke or lost.
Critical
Despite the validation of the history and the message, the Illman received its share of criticism and skepticism of a few people. They found it difficult to believe that the story was genuine and given the history of kym marketing, they assumed that he has just bought the bottle on one of his travels and presented it as something that 'They accidentally discovered.
Validation
Kym understood the suspicion of people. The story rang away from him too. A bottle half buried in the sand found with a message of the year 1886 completely intact, he had it. But he made a very strong point, "I can not get woolen on two German national agencies and the WA Museum". And that's true, these two agencies have validated this story by sharing their own opinion.
True message
To prove further that history is not false, KYM had only one support pillar. The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency officially declared the message as genuine. Dr. Anderson highlighted the structure of the bottle, a narrow neck and a thick glass, helped keep the message intact.
A World Record
The bottle was discovered by Tonya after 131 years of her being thrown into the sea. The archives of the world Guinness named the "oldest message in the world in a bottle". The previous registration was detained by a 108 year message in a bottle.
A remarkable discovery
KYM and TONYA were overwhelmed by the tour of this trip. They were just on a relaxed walk on the beach and the next thing they know, they made a record of the world. Tonya wrote online, "think that this bottle was not touched for nearly 132 years and is in perfect condition. I am always trembling. This was the most remarkable event of my life. "
Lend the loan
The Illman lent the bottle and the message to the Western Australian Museum for two years where it will remain in the public display. Kym was delighted to lend the museum's search by saying, "It's really an impressive discovery and thanks to the wonderful international and interdisciplinary cooperation of science and research, it can also be shared with the world."
