In December 2022, Céline revealed that she had received a diagnosis of a steep person syndrome in a video published on Instagram in which she also announced that her tour was suspended.
"Recently, I was diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff person syndrome, which affects something like a person in a million," said Celine. "While we always learn this rare condition, we now know that this is what caused all the spasms I had." She added that the disorder had affected her vocal cords and made walking difficult.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, Stiff person syndrome (SPS) is "a rare autoimmune neurological disorder which most often causes muscle stiffness and the painful spasms that come and go and can worsen over time". There is no remedy for disorder, but "working with a specialist and maintaining symptoms can make life easier with the condition". Johns Hopkins notes that steep person syndrome is "supposed to allocate one to two people in a million. However, SPS experts now consider syndrome as a spectrum of troubles, which means that it is probably more common than did not think it originally, although always rare. "
In A new interview with Quebec publication 7 hours ( via the Daily mail ), Claudette shared Céline: "She works hard, but she has no control over her muscles. What breaks my heart is that she has always been disciplined. She has always worked hard. Our mother He always said, 'You always go to do it well, you will do it properly. "" She added: "It is true that in our dreams and his own, the goal is to go back on stage. What capacity? I don't know." AE0FCC31AE342FD3A1346EBB1F342FCB
Claudette said research is limited due to the rare SPS. "The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle. This is what just obtained me," she added. "Because this is a million case, scientists have not done so much research because it did not affect so many people."
Céline's sister also said that the family's charitable association for Quebec schoolchildren, Maman Dion Foundation , received overwhelming support. "If only you knew the number of telephone calls that the foundation obtains on Céline! People tell us that they love her and pray for her. She receives so many messages, gifts and blessed crucifixes."
Claudette shared an earlier update on Céline with The newspaper of Montreal in August. "We cannot find any drugs that work, but having hope is important," she said ( via Page six ). She also expressed that Céline had done the right thing by stopping her tour.
"I honestly think that she especially needs to rest," said Claudette. "She always goes beyond, she always tries to be the best and the top of her game. At one point, your heart and your body try to tell you something. It is important to listen to it."
