CVS, Rite Aid and Target Eye Drops drawn due to the risk of blindness, the FDA warns

Few things are worse than dry, irritated or itching eyes, which can make you uncomfortable or even have an impact on your ability to see. This is why so many of us keep the drops of the eyes in our Pharmacy cabinets or travel bags to relieve pain in a pinch. But now, the Food and Drug Administration of the United States (FDA) issues an alert on certain eye drops of major brands such as Target, Rite Aid and CVS Health, which can cause ocular infections - and potentially lead to a loss of partial vision or a blindness. In a October 27 alert , the FDA warned customers not to buy or use 26 over -the -counter eye falling products (OTC) marketed under the CVS Health, leader (cardinal health), rugby (cardinal health), rite aid, target up & Up and Velocity Pharma Brands Brands.

According to the FDA, on October 27, CVS, Rite Aid and Target actively removed the products from the shelves and websites, but brand products as a leader, rugby and speed can always be available and should not be purchased . A complete list of impacted products can be found in the FDA alert.

The FDA has found unsanitary conditions at the drug manufacturing center.

Concerns occurred when the FDA investigators found unsanitary conditions in the manufacturing installation and "the results of the positive bacterial tests for the environmental sampling of critical areas for the production of drugs in the installation". AE0FCC31AE342FD3A1346EBB1F342FCB

The agency has not provided additional details on bacteria that have been detected in drug production areas, but have explained that affected eye drops can potentially cause "eye infections that could cause partial vision loss or a blindness ”. On October 25, the FDA recommended that the manufacturer of products can remember many drops for the eyes of this installation.

According to the alert, ophthalmic drug products should be sterile because they are applied to the eyes and "get around some of the body's natural defenses", posing an increased risk for users.

The FDA had not received any infection related to the products at the time of the alert, but urged people with signs or symptoms of eye infection after using these products to "speak to their care provider health or immediately consult medical care ".

According to the Cleveland Clinic, there are several types of different types of Eye , which can occur in one or two eyes. The first symptoms include red eyes, itching or irritation, eye pain, aqueous eyes and swelling. The subsequent signs and symptoms may include the discharge of the eyes, the eyelashes that remain together due to the discharge, the sensitivity to the light, the blurred vision and the fever.

If you have these products at home, the FDA asks you to get rid of them safely. According to the agency's page on Eliminate drugs , you can do it by taking it to a drug return site or by checking if it is on the FDA " hunting list “To see if you can empty it in the toilet at home.
