Lauren Wasser is today a 35 -year -old woman from Santa Monica, California, who risked dying due to the toxic shock syndrome (TSS) caused by an internal absorbent. Her terrible experience, however, did not prevent her from continuing to work to make her dreams come true and, despite the great loss to which she was forced, today she is a happy and realized person.

In 2012, Lauren Wasser lived a terrible experience: he risked dying due to an internal absorbent. After contracting the toxic shock syndrome, he found himself one step away from death and, in the fight against time to stay alive, the doctors were forced to amputate both legs.

The police, alerted by the mother who could no longer contact her, found her stretched to the ground in her room, face down, immersed in her vomiting and without senses.

It all started as an influence

Fever, low pressure, tiredness. Those who seemed to be the symptoms of a common influence, in the end, brought it to the hospital without senses, with a serious heart attack, the fever at 41.5 and the gangrene that began to devour both legs.

In the hospital

In the hospital, a doctor specialized in infectious diseases had the intuition of having checked if the girl had an internal absorbent. Found the cause, it was put in a pharmacological coma and all possible treatments were provided. The doctors had given her 1% probability of survival given the aggressiveness and speed with which the arts of the limbs proceeded.

"The right leg was put much worse than the left, the fingers of the left foot were becoming purple, but it was clear that the right foot was put very badly," he said. For this reason, the doctors decided to amputate her leg to save her life, but she learned it by chance, listening to a nurse who spoke on a 24 -year -old girl's phone (she was the only one in the ward) who had to suffer the 'amputation of a leg at the height of the knee. "Are you talking about me, is he saying that I am that of the amputation?" He told in the podcast. "And I started screaming, I screamed for how my mother would react, for me, for everyone and I started screaming against the nurse."

Amputations and its commitment

After the first amputation of 2012, in 2018 the doctors were forced to amputa the other leg. Following his terrible experience, today Lauren has promoted an information campaign on the risks related to internal absorbents and a safe and transparent legislation governing products for female hygiene. "If I had known what the risks related to toxic shock syndrome were, I would never have used internal absorbents."

Like trophies

In 2012, before finding herself in the hospital, Lauren was a promising basketball player with an equally promising modeling career. He chose the catwalks, refusing an excellent scholarship for basketball. And even after the amputation, Lauren did not give up. He resumed his life in his hand, he slipped his prostheses (which he wanted rigorously golden, as if they were trophies) and continued to work as "the model with gold legs", chosen by high fashion brands Like Lacoste, Furla and Shiseido for their advertising campaigns.
