While Fonda and Stewart had their similarities, they had very different beliefs with regard to politics and religion. Stewart was republican and Christian. Fonda was democratic and agnostic.

AccordingCloser, they once had a great argument on politics and decided that they would no longer tackle the subject, which may or may not have become physical, depending on the account you read. "There were certain subjects that we just haven't talked about," said Stewart.

In an interview with Fox News, directorPeter Bogdanovich says thatFonda told him the same thing. "I spoke to Jimmy once founded, how they got along so well, since they were politically polar opposites. And Hank said:" We are not talking about politics. We are not talking about it. ""

They kept anchored.

Fonda and Stewart’s friendship stories explain that they could count on each other for support and for a soothing presence in the midst of their hectic career. So it may not be surprising that they did not want to talk about politics.

They were also a constant for each other, even if other relationships come and come: while Stewart was married to his wife,Gloria Hatrick McLean, from 1949 to his death in 1994, Fonda married five times.

In biographyHank and Jim: Henry Fonda and James Stewart's fifty -year friendship,,Scott Eyman wrote (Going throughThe Dallas Morning News), "In their friendship, they created a safe place for themselves, far from the fears and frustrations of their careers, their domestic problems, responsibilities of their legendary status."
