"Hepatitis" refers to the liver swelling, most often caused by a virus. On the five types of hepatitis - A, B, C, D and E - Hepatitis B and C are the two most common forms in the United States

Several dangerous conditions can be caused by VHC, warn the experts. "Chronic hepatitis C can lead to serious and deadly health problems such as cirrhosis and liver cancer," said the CDC. Since people with chronic HCV often live without symptoms for a long time, the presence of symptoms often means that the disease is advanced.
