When you think in September, Labor Day and returning to school festivals come to mind. But September also offers some of the best times, as summer ends and we went to the cooler temperatures in autumn months. For those looking to explore a national park, experts say that September is actually an ideal moment.

"September is one of the best months to visit American national parks", "Caleb Pasiuk,,Co-creator and writer For the Pazook Travel Journal, saysBetter life. "Time is very comfortable in almost the whole country. Southern national parks have cooled with summer heat, but national parks in the North are still hot enough to hike without many diapers."

So, if you have an Acadia National Park in Maine at the top of your list or if you have always wanted to see the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, you will probably find this month is perfect for exploring the large spaces. And if you can plan your trip later in the month, the National Park System (NPS) has an additional bonus for you.

The National Day of Public Lands wasCreated for the first time in 1994, held each year the fourth Saturday in September as "the biggest volunteer effort in a day in the country," said the NPS website. This year, the event falls on the 24th and is led by the National Environmental Education Foundation and additional federal agencies.

"The free entry day of the National Park Service is an impressive initiative to promote the natural beauty of America," explains Pasiuk. "The national parks system was initially created to protect special places in the United States for future pleasure. This day is a celebration of this initiative."

In emblematic parks and "local urban green spaces" across the country, volunteers unite their forces to help preserve and restore public land, according to the NPS. By getting involved, you can take advantage of "the opportunity to contribute tangibly to the natural beauty of the United States", explains Pasiuk.

As part of the celebrations, the NPS offers free admission to the national parks that generally charge admission, as well as opportunities to volunteer in the country's national parks. If you choose to volunteer, some parks will also provide a day coupon at no additional cost, which you can use for a future visit.

September 24 is not the only free admission day.

If you cannot visit a national park in September, rest assured that you can also visit free November 11 in recognition of veterans day.

The NPS offers free entry days each year, but the number of days can change each year, because the NPs have offered six days in 2021 and five days in 2022. In addition to the National Public Land Day and the day Veterans, this year, the parks were free to visit on January 17 in recognition ofMartin Luther King Jr. birthday; April 16 for the first day of the week of the National Park; and August 4 for the birthday of the Great American Outdoors Act.

Be advised, however, that the renunciation of the costs does not apply to "the equipment of the use costs", the NPS declares, and you will always be on the hook for the campsite, the boats, the transport and the transport and Special visits.

If you want to completely ignore the entrance fees, you can also choose to visit the national parks that are always free, says the NPS. These include beautiful places across the country, notably the Travelers National Park in Minnesota, the Biscayne National Park in Florida and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee.
