Inflation has raised its ugly head in the United States, which increases prices and makes it difficult for some to buy the necessities. As indicated byThe New York Times, prices haveclimbed by 8.6% From the start of the year to May, which is the fastest rate in almost 40 years.

Experts remain uncertain of the duration of the price increase, while we continue to feel the consequences of the COVVI-19 pandemic. People now have more money to spend, thanks to new jobs and savings during the pandemic, but there are also limited quantities of goods due to supply chain problems,The temperaturereported. And with numerous expenditure in experiences instead of material goods, inflation now strikes the service industries. Things like plane trips and hotels have higher price labels, largely due to the increase in demand, but also the price of a key component: fuel.

When you think of inflated prices, these disturbing figures in your local service station are likely to be in mind. Fuel prices have increased in recent months, largely due to the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine. And on June 14, theNational Average gas price spent $ 5, which is the highest registered. The Americans certainly feel pain in the pump, which is why some have decided to take matters into their own hands.

A tiktok video has made its way around the Internet, which offers a country at the national levelboycott the gas This holiday weekend. The video, which was published on June 16, has more than 2.4 million likes on the social media platform and asks people to refrain from buying gas between July 3 and 5.

"People are trying to organize a boycott, and I hope it will lower the price of gas," said user Tiktok Aidans_98_Prelude in his viral video. "It has already been done, it has already worked. Republicaning this, sharing, saying to people and participating."

"Just for once, it would be good if we could all stop arguing and join their forces," wrote an optimistic user. "It's worth trying!"

"It would be great if there was no end date," said another user. "It would be great if we stopped until they do it, but it could take some time."

Experts weighed on the potential effects of the boycott, and unfortunately it is unlikely to succeed.

"It will not work because people change their requests", "Patrick de HaanHead of oil analysis for Gasbuddy, told Wral News. ""People who fill Wednesday and not Thursday or Tuesday instead that Sunday will do nothing. ""

Tiktok users said that the boycott tactic had already worked before, during the 2008 recession, but according toTiffany Wright, AAA Carolinas Public Affairs Director, there is no real truth for that.

"Historically, the boycotts have led nothing to something important," Wright told Wral about gas prices.

Joseph von Nessen, PHD, research economist at the University of South Carolina, has echoed at this point, adding that boycotts need "good period" to succeed. Speaking with WCNC, Von Nessen used an interesting example to explain his point ongas consumption.

"And if you decide just before Thanksgiving, you quickly and then you eat a turkey on Thanksgiving Day, you get additional calories and additional desserts," said Wright at the exit. "Ok you may have fasted, but then you eat the whole refrigerator, so how do you move the needle?"

Is there a silver lining?

Although the boycott is not effective, experts offer consumers a glimmer of hope.

The average national gas price is down compared to the June 14 summit, down $ 5.016 to $ 4.897 per Gallon for regular fuel, according to AAA data. And according to a tweet of June 26 from de Haan, these prices couldcontinue to decline, moving up to $ 4.75 per gallon by July 4.

A June 27 AAA position attributes this decline to the "economic fears of aPotential global recession“This created a lower oil demand.

"Fear is not a good reason to move a market like that of oil, but it is a powerful motivator,"Andrew GrossSaid the AAA spokesperson in the post. "The cost of petroleum represents almost $ 3 for each $ 4.89 at the petrol pump. Consumers should find more relief during combustion if oil prices drop more."
