How many polar bears are left around the world

Thanks to global warming, the polar bear population around the world is decreasing.

Due to centuries of hunting practices and the destabilization of Arctic habitats, there have been growing concerns about the future survival of polar bears. Although hunting has long been a problem, global warming has made a number of polar bears habitats in recent years, radically narrowing the polar bear population around the world. In fact, theWildlife World Fund (WWF) estimates that there are only 22,000 to 31,000 polar bears in the world.

Since the 1960s, the world leaders of the different habitats than polar bears call at home - like the United States, Canada, Denmark, Norway and Russia - have made conscious efforts to protect bears populations violent poles and vulnerable. In 1973, they created a treaty called for the conservation of polar bears, which strictly regulates the commercial hunt.

But even with these practices in place, scientists are still worried about polar bear populations, especially in Canada. According to the WWF, 60 to 80% of the polar bears of the world reside there and this is the only country where the polar bears population is actively decreasing.

That said, the efforts of the Conservatives were somewhat successful. In 2019, the WWF indicates that "most of the 19 populations of the [polar bear] are returned tohealthy numbers. "In fact, polar bears remain one of the only large carnivores still found in their original habitats in the same numbers.

But global warming put polar bears in a dangerous situation. According to a 2018 study published in the journalFrontiers in ecology and the environment, very little ice in northeastern Canada and North Greenland will stay by 2040. "If the loss and warming rate of sea ice continues undigilated, which will happen to the Habitat of the polar bear will exceed everything that is documented over the thousands of years ", says marine biologistKristin Laidre, the main author of the study.

Although it is difficult to predict, scientists believe that approximatelyA third of the polar bear population will be eradicated by 2050.
