Here is why lifts are safer than the mechanical stairs

Do not believe everything you see in horror movies.

Elevator dives are too long on horror movies that many people are convinced that foot attachment in one is equivalent to the signing of your own death mandate. However, the chances you will really hurt in an elevator are relatively thin. In fact, if you are going to be wounded in motion between floors, an escalator is probably the culprit.

According to a study published in theWestern Journal of Emergency MedicineThere are about 10,000 escalator injuries that take place on the 35,000 staircases of the United States each year. And although there are 900,000 lifts in the United States, the total number ofLift injuriesover about 7,000 people. So what keeps the lifts safer? The lack of human error.

The elevators go up and down with a proven pulley and engine system outside the elevator. This means that there are few possibilities of human error to interfere with its operation. Although overweight lifts and mechanical failures can present a danger, it is unlikely that your choice of clothes or weather plays a role in your risk of injury.

On the mechanical stairs, however, it is a different story. Since humans come into direct contact with moving parts of a staircase, it is much easier to accidentally hurt. The clothes are often accidentally sucked in a stairwell plate, putting passengers at risk of falls, strangulation or even death. Similarly, a pair of wet shoes on an elevator can dramatically increase your risk of slipping.

Although most modern mechanical stairs are now metal, the risks on old wooden stairs are even larger. In fact, in 1987, 31 people were killed when a wooden staircase in the Cross of the King of London. The pancras station caught fire. It was determined that a wandering match had inflamed the lubricant used to prevent the steps moving freely. The wooden steps were essentially turned on.

While the escalator and lift injuries are certainly terrifying, the global chances that you will actually be in one stay small enough. In fact, according to research published in theAmerican Journal of Emergency MedicineThe stairs are the most common offender behind injuries engaged in traveling between floors. During a period of 23 years, 24,760,843 people were injured on the stairs, an average of 1,076,558 each year. So, keep these shoes dry, take into account the limits of your elevator capacity, keep the balustrades and you will probably be very good.
