The FDA does not allow a booster for this vaccine

The agency has now approved additional doses of COVID shots for some people.

Booster vaccines There were a topic of conversation because Covid Shots started, the research shows that the immune response can decrease over time, especially in the face of more infectious variants. White House Counselor CovidAnthony Fauci, MD, recently recognized that everyone will probably need aCovid Vaccine Booster Finally, but some will need it earlier than others. Now, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has decided to approve some people's strengthening vaccinations, but no vaccine will be invited to provide additional doses.

On August 12, the FDA announced that I have authorized aAdditional vaccine dose For some immunocompromised individuals - specifically, "the recipients of a solid organ transplant or those who are diagnosed with conditions considered to have an equivalent level of immunocomprographic", said the agency. Only about 2.7% of American adultsare immunocomous, according to the disease control centers and prevention (CDC).

"The country has yet entered another wave of the CVIV-19 pandemic and the FDA is particularly aware that immunocompromised people are particularly threatened for a serious illness"Janet Bodcock, MD, the Interim FDA Commissioner, said in a declaration. "Today's action allows doctors to stimulate immunity in some immunocompromised people who need additional CVIV-19 protection."

But the FDA has only changed emergency use authorizations (EUA) for two vaccines: Pfizer and Moderna. The Agency's announcement did not mention Johnson & Johnson vaccine. According toThe New York Times, the FDA hasdecided not to expand The EU of the single dose vaccine, in part because officials still want Johnson and Johnson's clinical trial data on the safety and efficacy of two doses first. The vaccine manufacturer should release these results this month.

The FDA emphasized that this decision on an additional dose "does not apply to people who are not immunocompared." Immunocomproductive individuals who have received the Pfizer vaccine or the Moderna vaccine are allowed to receive a third additional dose administered at least 28 days after their second dose. But they must receive the same vaccine they got for their first two shots.

This amendment follows several studies in recent months that have shown that immunodepressive people can benefit from additional shooting due to a relative immune response to only two doses. A study of May published in theAMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION JOURNAL found that almost half of the recipients of an organ transplant producedNo Covid Antibodies Following two doses of mRNA vaccine, while a recent Canadian study found that a third dose of the Moderna vaccine significantlyImproved immune response for this group. Another pre-printed of a study published on Medrxiv in July determined that about 44% of thesehospitalized with revolutionary cases In the United States is immunocomized.

"People immunodepromanes in a manner similar to those who have undergone a solid organ transplantation have a reduced capacity to combat infections and other diseases, and are particularly vulnerable to infections, including COVID-19," declaration of the agency is read. "The FDA has evaluated information on the use of a third dose of Pfizer-Biontech or modern vaccines in these people and has determined that the administration of these doses of vaccine can increase protection in this population."

The CDC Advisory Committee on Vaccination Practices (ACIP) is expected to reach on August 13 to "discuss new clinical recommendations for immunocompromised people," says the FDA announcement.
