Nearly 60% of coronavirus patients have high blood pressure

A new study on nearly 6,000 CIVID-19 patients found that more than half had hypertension.

A new study offers acute insight in some of the underlying conditions that led to a skin rash due to coronaviruses. Research, which examined 5,700 patients with COVID-19 in New York, revealed that there is a verycommon state in those with coronavirus complications: High blood pressure.

The study, published this week in theAMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION JOURNAL (Jama) in association with Northwell Health based in New York, aiming to answer the following question: "What are the characteristics, the clinical presentation and the results ofPatients hospitalized with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the United States? "What researchers have found that the most common comorbidities among those with COVID-19 werehypertension (56.6%),obesity (41.7%) and diabetes (33.8%).

The research confirms a large part of the previous conventional wisdom that it is those who have underlying conditions that are at most risk of having serious or fatal cases of COVID-19. Similarly, a March study published in thePolish archives of internal medicinefoundHypertension is associated with a higher risk of 2.5 times higher COVID-19 serious and fatal.

But this new research, conducted on a wider group of patients, highlights how muchHypertension can be in terms of coronaviruses. Hypertension is typically defined as a blood pressure greater than 130/80. And, according to the American Heart Association (AHA),Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure.

Doctors always study why this is the case, butSharon Orrange, MD, from the Keck School of Medicine, told GOODRX that "Infectious diseases (such as COVID-19) and uncontrolled hypertension Can be taxed on your immune system. If yourimmune response is high because of severe hypertensionand You try to fight against an infection, you can imagine how this could be a bad scenario. And for more factors that make you more about Covid-19, here is here15 apparently inocouse habits that increase the risk of coronavirus.
