We tried Taco Bell's bare chicken chips and here's what happened

The chicken nuggets encounter Nachos in the new Taco Bell Instagram menu item.

Taco Bell, known for its scandalous social media menus, worthy of social media (see: Naked chicken trampa, cool ranch Doritos Locos Tacos) has published a new cascade food on May 11 at the national level: bare chicken chips.

It's true, such as peanut butter and jelly or milk and cookies, Taco Bell has made the food to couple from magic when combining chicken nuggets with Nacho chips to create chips Naked chicken, which are essentially chicken nuggets in the shape of Triangle Tortilla chips and sufficiently thin to dive Signature of T-Bell Nacho cheese sauce.

Similar to the previous unpublished naked chicken trawl, where the chicken served as an external Taco shell with lettuce, tomato and cheese such as taco filling, chicken chips are seasoned with "Mexican bold spices" ( according to the press release). They are served with a Nacho cheese sauce bathtub, putting a single ride on classic chips and cheese combo.

Intrigued by the way the fast food chain could withdraw this new offer of menus, I with anotherEat this, not that! The employees had my hands on limited edition chicken chips on the day of the exit. And they are ... interesting.

They are thinner than the nuggets

The first thing I noticed about these chicken chips was how much dilution they were regularFast Food Nuggets, especially compared to McDonald chicken mcnuggets. They also much more than an orange color than most chicken nuggets, thanks to the yellow corn flour, Annatto and Curcuma in the panning.

They have a kick

Taking my first bite, I immediately tasted the kick of "Mexican bold spices". Unlike more bland chicken nuggets, these chicken chips pack permanently punch, similar to the doritos of cheese nacho spicy. I like spiced food, so it was a tasty surprise.

They come with queso

Then there was cheese sauce. Certainly, I am more of a type of chicken nuggets and barbecue sauce (and not a huge fan of stadium nacho cheese), but I could see how this twinning would be seductive for someone who loves The coagulated yellow cheese sauce. The cheese sauce itself had little flavor, despite the puree of Jalapeno in the ingredients, but had a color and a texture similar to the sad nacho cheese sauce you get with tortilla chips in sporting events.

Overall, bare chicken chips were much more numerous than I expected. The finesse of the chips could be a little discharged, but the spices (mainly paprika) give it a beautiful flavor. But you'd better eat them like regular nuggets rather than such as chips - cheese sauce have a lot to be desired, and although it is served warm, it is cold and freezing fast enough.

They are fat and caloric

After entering a chip, I could not help but noted how fat they were. The panting a little on the thicker side and fat oozed nugget and covered my towel. This oil mill reflects in nutritional information: 6 chicken chips with cheese sauce puts you 390 calories, 24 grams of fat (3.5 grams saturated), 1110 mg of sodium, 29 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fibers, 1 gram of sugar and 14 grams of protein. It's more calories and twice as much as McDonald cheeseburger fat, which clings to only 300 calories but only 12 grams of fat.

By itself without cheese sauce, chicken chips are still 330 calories, 20 grams of fat (3 saturated grams), 890 mg of sodium, 24 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fibers, 0 grams of sugar and 13 grams protein. Compare that McNugget chicken McDonald's 6 pieces, which has only 270 calories, 16 grams of fat (2.5 grams saturated), 510 mg of sodium, 16 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fibers, 0 grams of sugar and sugar and 15 grams of protein.

There is a long list of ingredients

Although the list of ingredients for chicken chips themselves is quite long, they are pretty benign saved for the "natural flavor of butter" and "natural flavors". Orange color comes from natural sources (Annattuo and Curcuma spices), but they are deeply fried to fattening (andPotentially dangerous) vegetable oil. Cheese sauce is made with non-oven milk, but also lists the vegetable oil as an ingredient. (A complete list of ingredients can be found onThe Taco Bell website)

Final verdict: they are worth trying

If you are just as intrigued by this new menu item as we were - or if you want something particularly fat after an end of the evening, then give these bare chicken chips. They are only available for a limited time to Taco Bell and cost only $ 1.99. Looking for other fast food chicken nuggets that will not cost you as many calories?
