This state can soon short of bacon, new reports say

Thanks to a modification of the regulation on animal welfare.

If you live in California and like a good, loadedBreakfast plateYou can soon be cruelly disappointed. According to recent reports, the state of gold could miss Bacon in a few months, thanks to a change in local laws on animal welfare.

According toNPRCalifornia will begin to apply a proposal requiring more space to reproduce pigs, laying chickens and veal calves, which was approved by voters in 2018. But while egg and veal producers are probably In capitial to meet the new standards, the rules for pig producers will make up to 96% of non-compliant.

The agricultural animal containment initiative will do so that non-state producers will have to comply with the new California rules, which establish minimum space requirements for increasing animals ("resolution requirements" ), if they want to sell their pork products in the state. This could make California lose almost all its pork provision from January 1, 2022.

In-state production in California could cover onlyOne-fifth of the monthly pork demand of the stateWhile the majority of the product comes from other states, such as Iowa. If this offer is cut due to non-compliance, pork prices and bacon will probably increase when supplies will be difficult to find.

Restorers in California fear the change. "We are very concerned about potential procurement impacts and cost increases," Matt Sutton, Public Policy Director of the California Restaurant Association, saidAp.

The National Council of Pork Producers hastempted to challenge the law before the court But failed. The Group is now asking for federal support in the modernization of pork facilities around the nation to meet the new standards, while producers are still waiting for California to publish formal regulations on new requirements.

However, some reports indicate that the large pork crisis of 2022 has beenout of proportionAnd that pork will simply become more expensive - about 60% of being exactly, rather than completely disappearing from the state.
