The weight loss towers of the world's tennis player # 1
Novak Djokovic, the tennis player # 1 in the world, has defeated Roger Federer in a Wimbledon epic finish, but he has almost no stopped at all. Here, in an exclusive extract of his book, serve to win, Djokovic explains how to go without gluten took the second level at the top of the charts - and shows how you can do it too.
"It's a test that will help us see if your body is sensitive to certain foods," said Dr. Cetojevic.
We were not in a hospital or laboratory office or doctor. He did not draw blood. There were no scanning devices or large scary medical pieces. It was July 2010, during a tournament of Croatia and Igor Cetojevic, MD, a holistic practitioner of my native Serbia, explained to me that he thought he knew why I fell separated so many times in The past, and how I could change my diet, my body and my life for the better. Then he made me do something very strange.
He had place my left hand on my belly and put my right arm straight on the side.
"I want you to resist at pressure," he said as he pushed on my right arm. After a moment, he stopped. "That's what your body should feel like," he said.
Then he gave me a slice of bread. Should I eat it?

"No," he says and laugh. "Hold it against your belly and put your arm right again." Once again, he pushed me on my arm, explaining to me that this crude test would tell me if I was sensitive to gluten, the protein in wheat, barley, rye and other grains of common bread.
It seemed like madness.
And yet, there was a noticeable difference. With the bread against my stomach, my arm had difficulty resisting Dr. Cetojevic's downward pressure. I was noticeably lower.
"It's a sign that your body rejects wheat into bread," he said. I had never heard of the term "gluten intolerant", but I had just taken the first steps in learning the size of a food role played in my life, how much my diet based on wheat me Receive - and how much was in my power to change.
Dr. Cetojevic then explained to me that there were other more scientific ways and more precise to test my sensitivities to certain foods. The best and most accurate is the ELISA test, which means enzymatic immunosorbent test. It is a common blood test that is used for everything, drug tests to diagnose malaria and HIV in food allergy tests.

The Elisa test can teach us very specific things about the sensitivities of our bodies to food. The most common sensitivities are gluten, dairy products, eggs, pork, soy and nuts. Some of us have unusual sensitivities or unexpected combinations of them; For example, my coach, Miljan Amanovic, tested sensitive to pineapple and white egg. But once you know what you are sensitive, you can make dramatic changes almost effortlessly. (Simply eliminating these two foods, Miljan lost 10 pounds in just a few weeks.)
When my blood test returned, the results were shocking: I was strongly intolerant with wheat and dairy, and I also had a slight sensitivity to tomatoes.
"If you want your body to respond to how you would like it, you will have to stop eating bread," said Cetojevic. "Stop eating cheese. Cut on tomatoes. "
"But doctor," I replied. "My parents possess a pizza!"
The idea of abandoning bread and other foods containing gluten that were so valuable for me, so enrolled in my life, my family and my culture - was scary. Then Dr. Cetojevic explained that I should not commit to giving up bread forever. As the proverb says, it's always a very long time.
"Two weeks," he says. "You give it for fourteen days, then you call me."
It was hard at first. I confirmed the soft, soft and comforting feeling of bread. I crotted the crunchy pizza dough, the sweet rollers and all the food I learned from wheat, things I had never presumed. "
For the first week, I critded these foods, but I focused every day to stay disciplined, and fortunately, my family and my friends, even if they thought I was crazy about me in my quest. But as the days rolled, I started to feel different. I felt lighter, more energetic. The night stuffing I had experienced with fifteen years suddenly disappeared. At the end of the first week, I wanted more rollers and biscuits and breads; It was as if a desire for a desire for life had been miraculously reached. Every day for next week, I felt felt as if I had the best night's sleep of my life. I started to believe.
And that's when Dr. Cetojevic suggested eating a bagel.

It was the real test, "he explained. Eliminate a food for fourteen days, then eat it and see what happens. And remarkably, the next day for introducing gluten into my diet, I felt like I had spent the night drinking whiskey! I was lazy to get out of bed, just as I had been during my teenage years. I was stunned. My farniment was back. I felt like I woke up with a hangover.
"This is the proof," said the doctor. "That's what your body gives you to show you that it is intolerant."
And I committed from that moment I told myself, I listen.
