The evidence comes from a study conducted by the European Cardiology Society, which assessed 411 heart attack survivors attempting to make lifestyle improvements in areas such as quitting, increasing exercise and losing weight. The data showed that participants who have committed to making changes with their spouse saw a much higher success rate - they were more than twice as likely to improve at least one of the areas. But the results have also shown that three categories, part of a pairMade much more successful weight loss.
"Patients with partners who have joined the weight loss programlost more weight compared to patients with a partner who has not joined the program ", author of the studyLotte Verweij, a nurse authorized and a doctoral student in Amsterdam University of Sciences applied in the Netherlands, said in a statement.
Verweij also pointed out that the underlying factors may be the secret of this tactic being so effective. "Couples often have comparable lifestyles and changing habits are difficult when one person makes the effort," she said. "Practical problems come into play, such as grocery stores, but also psychological challenges, where asupport partner can help maintain motivation. "
