Snacks filled with bug have tons of buzz

Crickets take sharks during this new episode of shark tanks on this Friday.

Every year, my in-laws ask my husband and me to submit three truths and a lie for their annual holiday letter to their friends and family. And because of my work work for a healthy restoration website, I was hoping to raise people when we said we had abandoned red meat in favor of getting ourprotein Crickets. It was the "lie", but it was also followed by "at least not yet".

"You'll eatBugs?!" you ask?

Yes! Why not?

That's what three women said when they createdCricket Chips Chirps few years ago. The sustainable (more on this below!) The snack is made of cricket flour and comes flavors like cheddar, sea salt and barbecue. And a Killer Kickstart campaign to be presented in prestigious outlets likeStrong and theNew York TimesBuggy's bites were gathered a lot of buzz. But even more people are about to scroll the nuggets of the Pepin once they are presented on the new episode of this Friday ofShark aquarium-And we can not wait to look!

From Pipcor to Bantam Bagels, some eat this, not that the preferred foods are presented onShark aquarium-And are enthusiastic about how to see how cringe chirps crisp with legendary investors this Friday night. We connected with co-founder Rose Wang (a draft resolution, one of my favorite organizations!) To find out what was the experience and to learn more about the nuggets. Find out what she had to say below then discover these26 Best sources of vegetarian proteins.

Chrips Cricket Chips

Eat this, do not!: What do the nuggets mean for food and health?

Rose Wang: The livestock industry produces 18% of greenhouse gas emissions and uses 50% water in the United States. Insects like crickets use a thousand times less water, produce a hundred times fewer greenhouse emissions and havetwice The beef protein. The world would be preferable that we all have eaten insect proteins instead of cattle proteins, but the biggest obstacle gets people on the "ick" factor. And that's where we enter. We need to create a request for cricket products so that cricket farms are relevant.

Our first product is a chip called Chirps. The nuggets are the first cricket chip, made with a healthy mix of stone corn, beans, chia seedsand - course cricket flour. They are crisp and delicious, and they have as many protein as a white egg per serving and 30% less fat than regular chips.

ETNT: So, basically, a chirp ismanner Better than your Standard Jack ...

RW: Most chips are only carbohydrates, greases and salt. For example, the pose chips have only 1 gram of protein per 1 oz portion and we have 4 grams of protein per 1 oz portion. As mentioned, they have 30% less fat. In addition, they are non-GMO, gluten free and natural!

ETNT: There seems to be a new health food or a superfeument craze every other day. How were you able to get the buzz on the nuggets and people to stay with the snack?

RW: Can you guess who loves the most chirps? Kids! Children think it's great to eat a cricket in each chip and that their parents love they ate healthy and sustainable snack. Children are also the key to introducing a new sustainable food culture.

ETNT: It's great. But what about the "ick" factor that you mentioned earlier? The bug proteins are not an entirely new idea, so how has your team been able to break the barriers, apart from using children?

RW:The first days were difficult. I remember the first time we launched an investor and he told us, "I have been an investor for ten years and that's the worst idea I've ever heard." At each stage along this trip to get Americans excited by eating bugs, we had slammed doors in our faces. Despite all retouching, we have been able to prove that there is a growing population of sustainable consumers and health care in search of better diet. It is difficult to change a culture, but we made it our mission of life to continue to grow!

ETNT: talking about investors, we are dying to hear about yourShark aquarium to live! Was it a sudden and swirling experience or was it a long time?

RW: A year and a half ago, we launched [our product] at an event and one of the sharks was the emcee. We arrived on stage in front of thousands of people and this shark told us that several cricket companies had already auditioned forShark aquarium, and they do not accept other cricket companies. Move quickly a year; Our friend convinced us of hearing with him forShark aquarium And now we are on the show!

ETNT: the moments of the scene behind the scenes you want to share?

RW: The totalityShark aquarium The experience was surreal. We went down this long corridor, then suddenly, we had submitted to these titles of the industry-people we admired for years! We were really nervous [at first], but once you are in the tank and sharks question you, sometimes five questions at a time, there was no time to be nervous. Everything is just so fast.

ETNT: Amazing! So, what is the next time for the nuggets? New flavors or outgoing products?
