Aldi offers the most affordable Thanksgiving

Between Aldi, Walmart, Publix and Whole Foods, who have the best prices?

Done: Thanksgiving dinner is expensivereally Dear. According toAmerican Farm FederationIn 2018, the average American family spent approximately $ 50 shopping for all traditional ingredients of a turkey meal for 10 people. Fortunately, someone understood how to organize a complete holiday for only $ 30 in purchases in a specific grocery store, a total saving of 40%!

Last week, a journalist for theSouth Florida Sun Sentinel Visited four of the main grocery stores of the Nation -Whore,Walmart,Publicity, andWhole foods-Armée of a grocery list and a mission: to determine which at the most affordable prices for a dozen most common thanksgiving products. The result? If you live near one, Aldi should be your grocery store for the most affordable Thanksgiving.

So, what is exactly included in a "common"Thanksgiving meal? To rate the prices, the journalist bought these 12 articles from Thanksgiving 12 Staples:

  • A turkey with 12 pounds
  • a bag (or two boxes) of stuffing
  • Three books of sweet potatoes
  • Five books of regular potatoes
  • A book of green beans (not frozen)
  • A turkey sauce pack
  • A box of crescent rolls
  • A cranberry jelly box
  • a liter of chicken (or Turkey)
  • a pound of butter
  • A half gallon of milk
  • A prepared dessert

It all said, the final results of the four grocery stores were:

  • Aldi:$ 30.36
  • Walmart:$ 32.73
  • Publix:$ 40.18
  • Whole foods:$ 62.48

Even though Aldi's global flour was the most affordable, there was a variation between prices between stores:

  • Publix sold Turkey at the lowest price: $ 5.88 compared to $ 7.08. (Meanwhile, all foods Turkey was nearly $ 23.)
  • Walmart proposed the cranberry jelly ($ 0.98) and the chicken stock ($ 1.22) at lower prices than the ALDI.
  • Publix had the most darkest potatoes: $ 4.47 for three books. (Even whole foods offered three fresh potatoes for $ 2.39.)
  • The most amazing, desserts to whole foods (which were 10 dollars each) costtwice What they did at Aldi and Walmart (who were about $ 5.90 each).

Overall, outside Turkey (and pies!) To entire foods, most items between stores do not differ too much. But when you buy a dozen things for both a holiday feast at one time, things add up quickly and every dollar account.

Being safe, an intrepid host could browseThe whole reportIdentify the lowest individual items costing and train from the channel to the chain, choosing only the most affordable items of each grocery store for the ultimate cost savings thanksgiving meal. But this poses another question: how much would it cost gas? Your best bet: stick to Aldi if there is one near you. And otherwise, Beeline at your nearest Walmart (you are probably going to work anyway, is not it?).
