Here's how glove gnocchi from the giant giant cabbage

The cauliflower is everywhere, from the pizza crust in Gnocchi.

Cauliflower has a moment this year, serving as a gluten-free substitute, gluten-free substitute for all, rice pizza crust. And its latest use is to replace starchy potatoes in frozen Gnocchi options.

Trader Joe fans may have already tried the frozen gnocchi of the brand, which cook in a pan and uses a steamed potted lid. But TJ has a major competition: in October, Green Giant has launched Gnocchi frozen cabbage, which you can buy from the big retailers as target.

Speaking anecdotage, the green giant variety seems to be a massive success. I tried several target stores, several times, before finally ending a veggie dish bag. Here's how it compares to the Trader Joe version and traditional gnocchi.

What is Green Giant Cabbage Gnocchi?

In the first aspect, the green giant version has an appearance and a form of traditional gnocchi. In the image of the package, the gnocchi has the signature ridges that you could expect to see gnocchi of dried potatoes. Unfortunately, the taste did not respond to appearance.

Unlike the Joe Trader option, the Green Giant Green Cabbage Gengler will take two pots to cook. It must be boiled then pan-fried, while the trader Joe's Gnocchi will simply take a pan. In my opinion, however, double cooking has not improved the taste of this version.

To simply put it, the giant green gnocchi tastes like roast cabbage. He felt wrong to have pasta sauce because he had not tasted traditional gnocchi. I wanted I just torn off with olive oil to keep the taste of cauliflower.

Green gnocchi also lost part of its shape after being boiled and skipped. He stuck together after cooking in the pan and she frozen in a sad mixture that did not look like traditional gnocchius. Of course, part of this can be a cooking error - but the taste was awful anyway.

Another thing that consumers will want to be aware of the fact that the green giant version is made of wheat flour, which means that people are not suitable for celiac disease. It will not be a factor for anyone just trying to go low carbs, but it's not a gluten-free option.

What about the gnocchi of Joe trader's cauliflower?

There is a reasonTJ is the head of the pack with the gnocchi cauliflower. He has tasted more like a pasta product, and it was ok with pasta sauce. I could not eat more than a few bites of green gnocchi, but the TJ was tolerable. I also liked how easy it was to cook and he melted easily with pasta sauce.

Final verdict

In the end, I will no longer buy these products again - there are not many things that can compare themselves to potato pillows that make up real gnocchi. (And if it's gluten, you are worried, there are many gnocchi-free recipes that do not involve treated cauliflower.) Roast cauliflower is ideal in its own right, but it has not No need to be included in everything, especially pasta dishes.
