The beloved food samples of Costco are back, but with a major touch
Good news for buyers, a new slightly worse for food brands.
Back in March, grocery stores had made samples in stores. Because of their open container nature, these little fun bites that make us feel like we had a free grocery bonus had been trusted too dangerous for distribution during a pandemic.
Now, food samples slowly make their wayBack in some places of CostcoBut with a very different look. Previously, the food would be cooked or prepared otherwise on site and preparing customers to try, the food sampling stations are now transformed intoFood displays equipped with plexiglass barriers. And there is no more eating on the spot.
Known as a dry demonstration, this type of promotional effort will show buyers what the final product looks like what the final product looks like free dried dry products to bring home and try themselves.
Instagram user@ coscoguy4u I have published an image of this new configuration at a Costco location, where you can see a dry demonstration in action. A plate of spaghetti with a tomato sauce is locked up in a plexiglass screen, recalling a museum exhibition, while dry packets of said pasta and jarred sauce are stacked in front of it.
Just as he led the pack in March by a sampling of Nixing food in their stores,Costco is one of the first grocers to bring them back into this new format. However, this type of promotional effort canProve difficult for most food brands. In order to have customers taste their product, they must either give full size packets or find a way to produce them in smaller quantities and sample size - another operational obstacle to same.
But this can be a cost to frozen, because many smaller brands depend on the in-store demos to present their product to a wide audience. And it's definitely good news for Costco buyers, who may end up with a free pasta package or pot of sauce.
