In St. Paddy's Day Staple, Irish coffee is a hot coffee cocktail, Irish whiskey and sugar, and garnish with soft cream.

The cocktail is quite simple, but if you are looking to impress your guests or have a little extra time on your hands on the feast of St. Patrick, then there are tips (with the gourmet Gillian Murphy, Bartender and Tullamore Dew's ambassador to make your coffee from Irish coffee.

For starters, Murphy recommends heating your glass before making your cocktail. In this way, it will stay hotter for longer. No need to make the glass appear in the microwave or something simply pouring hot water into the glass will do.

The next step is to mix your sugar and coffee in the glass. Poux to taste and if you are looking for a low sugar version, you can also use a calorie zero sweetener as Stevia or Fruit monk.

Now, the fun part: add your whiskey of choice! We recommendTullamore D.E.W. For its spicy and malty notes with shades of carbonaceous wood. Unlike other whiskeys, there is no severe burning with Tullamore d.e.w.-Its smooth finish is the perfect complement for this heating coffee.

The final ingredient (and perhaps preferred from each one) is thewhipped cream Accompaniement. And Murphy has an intelligent hacking: everything you need is a bottle of protein mixer with a small spring metal ball that helps you mix your protein powder and liquid. Everyone has no electric whip, this tip allows you to prepare this cocktail.

To take this cocktail at an impressive level, Murphy explains a classic bartender trick to pour the whipped cream on the top of the Irish coffee at the back of a hot tea spoon. This helps keep the cream on top of the coffee rather than mix as a drink through a layer of thick but soft cream of this classic Irish drink and gives meaning to the classic phrase "Top O 'in the morning to you! "

Serves 1

You will need

1 ½ parts Tullamore D.E.W. Original
1 ½ parts of highly brewed coffee
½ piece of sugar
Thick cream slightly whipped
Cinnamon or nutmeg

How to do it

  1. Preheat a vigorous glass with very hot water. Add the sugar and mix coffee and mix well.
  2. Once the sugar melted, stir in Tullamore D.E.W. Irish whiskey.
  3. Bold gently the thick cream by shaking it in a protein shaker with a mixer ball - you want a consistency still loose and non-rigid.
  4. Pour the cream on the back of a hot teaspoon to drink better (and prevent the cream from penetrating the top of the drink).
  5. Finally, garnish with grated nutmeg or cinnamon for a spicy finish.
