Available as a series of free downloads onDuke Digital RepositoryThis collection of 82 rooms was organized by the center of Salie Bingham for the history and culture of women of the Rubenstein Library of Duke University. Scroll, you can discover all kinds of culinary guides of charm and vintage: aalmanacfrom 1881, a"Delicious desserts"Cookbook from 1904, a carved manual always useful from the 1890s. This list, which itself is just a small selection of the Nicole di Bona Peterson advertising recipe collection - includes gems dating back to 1851.

We are a big fan of this one for many reasons, but mainly that it is, for all useful purposes, a twenty roaring version ofEat this, not that!

It's easy to forget thatbalanced diet An integral part of the social conversation as early as 1929, when this masterpiece was published.Complete with sections on "attractive and corrective salads", "vegetables of vitamins and vitamins" and "foods that reduce weight", we believe that the author WT Rawleigh posed serious basic work for nutrition experts today.

Our favorite wisdom of the Olde-Time of the Author of Health? The section entitled: "Sunshine: Essential for Health." (We could not agree more agree.)

Cereal foods and how to cook them

This publication at the beginning of the century - that we imagine graceful kitchen cabinets everywhere from 1899 - is exactly what the title would lead you to believe: an entire book using breakfast food. Covering a range of morning restoration topics, this book, published by American cereal company, gives tips on everything "How to make a good coffee", "Some clues about the manufacture of pudding".

Oh, and it also has a section on the best way to cook Quaker OATS.It's always relevant today!

Sixty one uses for salt with a comment on the type of salt to use

This incredibly entitled teaching manual begins with an epithet person:"My old Aunt Samanthy used to say - and my cook, she said that getting married without love was like trying to cook without salt."

So, of course, perhaps some elements have changed since the beginning of the 20th century when this book has been published - but some strange coincidences are always true. The writer of this publication, which was published by Diamond Crystal Sel Co., was named Martha Stuart. (Hmm ... it sounds very similar to Martha Stewart, do not you think?)

And this volume lacks no shortage of essential knowledge. Apparently, you can use the salt for many more than we have never learned in the saving class of the house: to prevent the milk from lifting, cooking pancakes "without smoke or smell", and even to prevent the mites.
