Amount men must drink could increase change

More alcohol can be harmful, although experts do not fully agree.

Men, you may need to think twicebefore getting down this second beer, glass of wine or whiskey on the rocks. Or say the recentScientific Report of the Advisory Committee on Dietary Guidelines 2020 (DGAC), wholawyersReduce the supply of alcohol for men at half of what is currently suggested. The report serves as a foundation for theDietary Directives for Americans (DGA), who are issued every five years by the government.

The results of the DGAC are an important gap in alcohol guidelines in the last two versions of DGAS, which suggested that men can benefit from two drinks a day, while women can have up to one, which is considered like a "moderate" drink. For reference,DGAa drink is 12 ounces of beer (5% alcohol); 5 ounces of wine (12% alcohol); or 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits (80 proof), such as whiskey, vodka and gin. Decades ofresearch have shown thatmild or moderate consumption is associated with a lower risk of dying early For some reason. Yet this last report foundthat more than one daily drink increased slightly the risk of dying of all the causes of the two genders. This perplexed alcoholic expertise, including Eric Rimm of Harvard, SCD, which presided over the Alcoholic Sub-Committee for DGAC 2010. RIMM and two Harvard colleagues have disagree publicly with the conclusions of DGAC on alcohol, calling Insufficient proof to justify changes of previous DGAS.

The DGAC report also indicates thatDrink less is usually better for health than drinking more, which is certainly true when men take some medications or are unable to control the amount they drink. While the daily consumption of alcohol can be beneficial, the consumption of frenzy - typically defined as two or more drinks in about 2 hours - can be dangerous.Beuveries increases the risk of accidents, violent behaviors and conditions, includingcardiopathy.

The final alcohol guidelines are due later this year and it is too early to say whether the suggestions of the Scientific Committee will hold water.

So until then, what is a guy to do?

"If you do not drink, do not start," RIMM recommends, echoing another suggestions from the DGAC. "If you like alcohol, spread it over the week and do not save it for the weekend."
