There is a handful of small studies suggesting that cup consumption of coffee before closing your eyes will help you wake up more alert and attention. This is because caffeine in the cafe does not hit for about 30 minutes after drinking it. Power naps by themselves are linked to improved performance and theNational Sleep Foundation Actually suggests not to exceed a nap of 20 or 30 minutes, as you can make you feel groggy or even disrupt your sleep cycle that night. What research is currently supporting this theory?

There does not seem to be recent research on this topic, but it has been covered by the past. The newspaperPsychophysiologypublished a 1997 study that discovered that when as sleepy adults consumed 200 milligrams of coffee, which is double the quantity in a standard 8 ounce Joe-right cup before taking a 15 minute native better performing on a driving test than those who have consumed placebo.

A study published in 2003 inClinical neurophysiologysuggest similar results. Those who drank 200 milligrams of caffeine before taking a 20-minute nap were more energetic and better performed on the computer tasks than those who have just made a nap; makes a nap and washed their faces; makes a nap and then has been exposed to brilliant light on awakening; And those who have just resting.

So, how is all this possible?Patricia Bannan, MS, RDN, nutritionist and author of theEat when the weather is tight, said that a substance called adenosine is responsible.

"Adénosine is a chemical in the body that promotes somnolence. Caffeine acts as an adenosine receptor blocker, so it helps keep us awake. You can feel the effects of caffeine as soon as 30 to 60 minutes after consumption and remains in the body up to 3-5 hours, says Bannan.

In this spirit, it is important to note that caffeine drinking too late in the day can disrupt your sleep habits later at night. According to a study published in theClinical Sleep Medicine Journal, drink caffeine six hours before bedtime can reduce the time you sleep the night over an hour. So, if you plan to go to bed before 23:00, make sure you drink your coffee and take your power nip well before 17:00!
