This symptom of Covid could ruin your diet forever, a new study says

A persistent result of the virus can have long-term impacts on your health and taste buds.

Given the alarm widthSymptoms of COVID-The -ty breath, potential organ damage, brain fog - it may seem like a loss of taste and smell are minor disadvantages. But scientists and doctors are worried about the prevalence of the issue, especially since a recent study in theInternal Medicine Journal found that this particular symptom accompanies the lightest cases of COVID-19.

In research,About 86% of people with sweet cases have lost their sense of smell and taste. A majority recovered within three weeks, but 5% of those studied had not recovered these functions from the six-month mark. With those with more moderate or severe symptoms of COVID, the loss was much lower, but only about 4 to 7% of their ability to feel or taste. Covid is not the only virus to have this kind of effect, according toOmid Mehdizadeh, M.D., Otolaryngologist and laryngologist at the Saint John Providence Health Center in Santa Monica, California.

"We do not know exactly why this happens, but viruses, in general can cause persistent problems and not only because you could be congested," he says. The most likely cause is that the nerve fibers that connect your brain to your nose-called the olfactory bulb, in the central part of your brain - can be inflamed when you are sick. This can cause cells related to the smell and tastes of "dying," says Mehdizadeh.

Finally, new cells are produced to replace them, but it can take weeks or even months for this process to get you back on track. With Covid, some people seem to take a lot more time to find these senses and is concerned about the permanent loss. It would be a huge problem, Mehdizadeh believes that these senses are an integral part of your quality of life.

For example, seniors often fight with loss of taste and tends to lead to problems of depression and nutrition. If you can not taste your food, he says you are less inclined to want to eat. Even when you succeed in forcing yourself because of hunger, you may have enough nutrients, "he adds.

In terms of smell, this can be an equally deep loss. "You do not know how much fun you get odors until they left," he says. "Even on a temporary basis, you can feel a feeling of sadness and significant loss when you can not feel anything."

Imagine not being able to evertaste food In the same way you have done a few months before. How could this affect what you choose and do not choose to eat?
