How to store mushrooms

Mushrooms are mainly made of water, so keep this extra moisture!

Mushrooms are a deliciously earthy add to a myriad ofreceipts-Pastas, healthy bowls, vegetable burgers. . . You name it. Unfortunately, it can only take a few days of inappropriate storage to transform the mushrooms of Dodue and Perky with wrinkled and frozen. Our best advice to store mushrooms? No! Buy fresh and do them in one day or two.

But if you do not use them for a few days, the safest place for storing fungi is the refrigerator. The mushrooms have a very high water content (80-90%!), So they need air to stay firm and fresh - that's why most of the mushrooms packed in the trade have small holes in the wrapped plastic around the container.

Keep in mind that mushrooms are also quite absorbent and are already so high in the water content, you certainly do not want to contribute more moisture. Do not wash them before storing - when you're ready to eat, you can give them a quick rinse or simply wipe them with a wet paper towel.

Regardless of how you choose to store mushrooms, they probably only stay fresh for a week. Here are three ways to store fungi for optimal freshness.

1

Keep mushrooms in the purchased store package in the fridge

If you bought fungi in a package, they are good to leave! Push them in the refrigerator and use them in a week.

2

If they did not come in a container, create one

If you have purchased bulk fungi, place them in a small bowl or container and cover with plastic wrap. Do not use sealable containers because you want to give your mushrooms. To this end, drill a few holes in the plastic, then store in the refrigerator and use in a week.

3

Another option is to wrap them and stay in a bag

You can also wrap fungi in paper towels and place them in a paper bag or a plastic bag with zip top with the top open. Store in the refrigerator and use in a week.
