While aspartame has long been marketed as sweetening that terminates clothes and promotes weight loss, new research published in the newspaperApplied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism suggests that this really has the opposite effect. To come in this bitter discovery, scientists have nourished two groups of rats a normal diet. However, a group received aspartame-coded drinking water while the other group received an ordinary H20. They also studied two other rodent groups who have been nourished with a large fat diet. Once again, half of the animals received water with aspartame, while the remaining rats consumed ordinary water. (The two aspartame siphot mouse groups consumed the equivalent of two to three dietary soda boxes.)
At the end of the study, there was a negligible difference in weight between the two groups of mice that were nourished normal diet. However, rats nourished the high fat diet with aspartame gained twice as much weight as mice that nourished the same diet without aspartame. Another frightening discovery: all the rodents consumed of aspartame-independently of their diet have peak in their blood sugar levels and had increased levels ofinflammation associated with metabolic syndrome.
So, what makes aspartame so dangerous? "It] blocks an intestinal enzyme called intestinal alkaline phosphatase that we have previously shown can prevent obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome," explains the main author of the study, Richard Hodin, M.D. Yikes!
