A major side effect to eat plant-based meat, explains a new study

Every year brings a new wave ofDietary trendsand 2021 seems to be shaping the year that factory-based meat finally maintained. But a new study inScientific reports Suggests that when it comes to nutrition, they are not exactly a very exchange.

Duke's researchers noted that when you look at nutrition labels, the amount of vitamins, greases and protein is very similar to real beef. However, using an approach called "métabolomomie" they were able to examine the biochemistry of 18 meat products herbal and evaluate their metabolites.

The metabolites are essential to signaling between cells and the conversion of food into energy and about half come from our diet. When researchers compared plant-based meat samples with grass-based chopped beef, they found significant differences between the two in terms of metabolite content, up to 90% in some cases.

The beef contained 22 metabolites that were missing from the plant substitute, including several amino acids and vitamins. Many of them are known to have important anti-inflammatory roles in the body, including researchers, such asOMEGA-3 fatty acids, glucosamine and creatine, which were all found in larger quantities in real beef samples.

They do not suggest avoiding her plant-based meat, in fact, plant-based products contained 31 missing metabolites in meat. These includedvitamin C and phytosterols, which are natural compounds found in vegetable cell membranes. In general, this means that the addition of these alternative meat options could be useful for getting a full range of beneficial metabolites.

"Takeout is that there are big differences between meat and an alternative to herbal meat," he says. "However, foods of plants and animals can be complementary because they provide different nutrients."
