Why is whole wheat a potential problem?
Some might assume that gluten is the culprit, but the problem is a little more complex.

The francs are a type of carbohydrate known as Oligosaccharide falling in the category ofFodmaps.
"Fodmaps (fermentable oligosaccharides, discarides, monosaccharides and polyols) are a collection of short chain carbohydrates (sugars) that are not properly absorbed into the intestine, which can trigger symptoms in people with IBS," says Harris-Pincus.
And as the entire wheat franters fall under the category of Fodmaps, they have been known to cause unwanted side effects for those with an IBS.
How do Fodmaps cause GI pain?
Fodmaps are not only found in whole wheat bread, but "are in a wide range of foods, such as fruits, vegetables, breads, cereals, nuts, legumes and sweets," declares Harris-Pincus.
The reason why the Fodmap foods, such as wheat bread throughout wheat, can create problems for people with IBS because of the excess gases they sometimes cause that the body produces. Fodmaps, including whole wheat bread fructalls, are naturally fermented inside our body and provide our intestinal bacteria with energy at work. However, as this bacterium uses these fermented fodmaps, it produces hydrogen, known to createExcess pain of the stomach, bloating, gas and other gastrointestinal problems.
