Sunrise

The horizon had a hue of gold, because the sun was about to rise in the sky. It was the third time in a row that Sean woke up and was awake before her before he was supposed. Sleep was a foreign affair now, not supposed to bring him peace. He missed his house in England where he could sleep peacefully. Sean belonged to the city of Hornchurch in Essex, England. Giving life obvious but life in England was very different from his life now. They had crisp winters, stormy sources and disappointing summers. However, the heat it was surrounded during the last two months, the British summers feel not to be disappointing. In addition, the meteorological condition was not its main concern. It was all the rest.

Mail

Sean just ended with breakfast when he heard agitation among his peers. The Mailman was here, which means that everyone was stirred and excited to receive their share of letters and parcels. Sean was not in a hurry for him to stayed at his bench. It was not that he did not want to hear his family, it just took a lot of courage to answer these letters. Sean's parents waited at home. He was a unique child who meant that leaving them behind was not easy, putting it lightly. He is the only family they have and thousands of kilometers of them are not easy. But he understood his duties and then did they do. And even kilometers away, his parents were his strength.

Patrol

Sean decided to save the letter for the night. He did not want to start his day feeling emotional and aspiring at home. It was time to be in use, it was his turn to get out of the patrol today with his team. He quickly loaded his equipment and packed his backpack, ready to leave for the day. Sean and his team would patrol the area at about 20 miles from their basecamp. He rushed out and skipped on one of the jeeps ready to take off for the day. Each Jeep has worn a group of five soldiers and a driver. Once everyone was on board, they were ready to go out. The Jeep got up leaving behind a cloud of sand. The soldiers came out of the jeep and walked in their assigned areas, their boots crushing the rubble under her. The sun shone brilliantly at the top of the head, Sean could feel the sweat dripping already in the back.

A sound

Sean was on his way after looking in the area when he heard a sound from behind him. He froze in his slopes. He turned around and saw a huge pile of bricks. Sean realized that there could be someone in the building after all. He ran to the bunch of debris and found a huge block of cement in the middle of it. Sean raised the cement block and threw aside. Once the dust had appeared, Sean's eyes landed on what was under the huge block of cement. It was a puppy. Sean's heart melted at sight. Although she is covered with dust, Sean could say that the puppy had a smoking fur. She was a mix of light brown white on the dark body and brown around her eyes and ears.

Rod

Feeding the puppy surely has to trust Sean and this time she allowed him to caress her. Sean smiled and knew he will keep her with him. She is her dog now and he decided to name her barrier. It's almost as if on cue, Barrie came from the front and smoothed her head. Sean took her as a sign she liked the name. He picked it up and brought him back to his tent.
