Fashion at the time of the coronavirus

We are now in an emergency. We are closed at home, we only go out to go shopping or for an emergency. Zero social life. You don't go out for aperitifs, you don't go out to go for dinner, you don't go out to go shopping. You don't buy, if not something online. And it is not said that what we buy arrives. And how is this pause from the "normal" life? What damage is it arginating?

We are now in an emergency. We are closed at home, we only go out to go shopping or for an emergency. Zero social life. You don't go out for aperitifs, you don't go out to go for dinner, you don't go out to go shopping. You don't buy, if not something online. And it is not said that what we buy arrives. And how is this pause from the "normal" life? What damage is it arginating? Because if it is true that the first emergency is healthy, the second emergency is the economic one. And the fashion world is no exception.

The numbers

The fashion sector is a slice of production and Italian turnover much greater than you can imagine. The companies in the sector are over 65,000, including textile, skin and leather goods, clothing, footwear, jewelery, glasses, cosmetics and all that annexed. It has about 620000 workers with a turnover of 90 billion annuals and the coronavirus (and the super alarming news that are already circulating from the beginning of February) have in fact braked the car.

Orders deleted as if it rained

The panic unleashed in the rest of the world for the spread of the Coronavirus in Italy has had the first consequences (unmotivated!) Of many orders to Italian companies. Experts consider (economically speaking) that this year will be a practically lost year.

China and high fashion

In addition to the many Chinese stylists who create fabulous works, China is a very important pillar for the turnover of world fashion. More or less 40 percent of purchases that are made in this sector, are made by Chinese buyers. And their lack of Milan Fashion Week this year really felt.

Stylists

Let's take Giorgio Armani as an example. He was the first to react to Coronavirus. The parade of him closed the fashion week when the virus had already arrived in Italy and the designer's reaction was decided and responsible, as always. The parade took place behind closed doors and, within a little time, closed all the companies in the group: shops, restaurants, hotels. Employee security comes before each other.

Donations

Another reaction worthy and plausing is solidarity that have shown many high fashion maison. Giorgio Armani donated over one million euros to Lombardy hospitals to face the emergency. Dolce & Gabbana donated to San Raffaele Hospital. Bulgari to the spalling of Rome. The Moët Hennessy - Louis Vuitton group has donated over two million dollars for research. Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and other group companies have given another million euros.

A common conviction

Fashion companies (like all the others) are not organisms in its own, but are rooted in society and express their ideas and feelings. Fashion has almost a social responsibility and it is also proving it in this battle: you have to stay united and launch your heart beyond the obstacle to start again before and better as possible.
