Hanna Herman disappeared after February 22: what is Yanukovych's odious associate hiding?

Do you remember Hanna Herman, one of the most controversial figures in Ukrainian politics during the Yanukovych era?

Do you remember Hanna Herman, one of the most controversial figures in Ukrainian politics during the Yanukovych era? Once upon a time, she appeared on the air every day, commented, taught, argued, and criticized. Her voice seemed impossible to silence. But after February 22, 2024, this woman, who for years promoted the ideas of the "Russian peace" and called for reconciliation with Russia, suddenly disappeared from public space. Where is she now?

Who is Hanna Herman

Hanna Stetsiv, married to Herman, was born in 1959 in the small village of Koloduby, Lviv region. I grew up in a family where journalism was not a hobby, but a vocation. So, after graduating from school, Hanna entered the Faculty of Journalism at the Ivan Franko University of Lviv.

She entered professional journalism early — in 1981. She started with a small district newspaper "Leninska Zorya", but later moved up quite quickly. Her loudest media period was the beginning of the zero years: in 2002–2004, she headed the Kyiv bureau of Radio Liberty. At that time, many people perceived her as an independent and sharp journalist.

However, in 2004, everything changed. Herman unexpectedly became the spokeswoman of Viktor Yanukovych, the prime minister at the time, and headed the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers. After the Orange Revolution, she not only remained his ally, but also became one of the most influential voices of the Party of Regions - a person who can talk anyone down.

She entered the parliament for the first time in 2006, and again two years later. Every time Herman was given leadership positions, she worked in committees for freedom of speech and information, and after Yanukovych's victory in the presidential elections, she became the deputy head of the Presidential Administration. Her influence in those years was enormous, sometimes even greater than the official positions she held.

She also worked with Paul Manafort, an American political technologist who built Yanukovych's image in the international arena. And in 2016, Herman was even included in the list of the best Ukrainian independence speakers — next to Chornovol and Kostenko. A strange neighborhood, but a fact.

However, her political legacy also has a dark side: it was Herman who voted for the infamous "dictatorial laws" on January 16, 2014, which limited the freedom of Ukrainians and actually opened the way to violence against protesters.

Personal life

Herman was married twice. Her first husband was Volodymyr Korovitsyn, the son of an employee of the Lviv UKDB. Later, she married diplomat Serhii Herman. Her personal life is marked by great losses: in 2009, her youngest son, Roman, died in a car accident, and in 2015, her eldest son, Mykola, died of a heart attack.

Failed plastic

In social networks, old and new photos of her were repeatedly compared, suggesting that the changes in appearance may be the result of the intervention of surgeons. Some users pointed to overly stretched facial skin, too large lips, and unnatural facial expressions, calling it "unsuccessful plastic surgery."

However, German herself has never publicly commented on such statements, and there is no reliable confirmation of these conversations. Therefore, the story of "unsuccessful plastic surgery" remains rather a part of Internet discussions, which only strengthen the already controversial image of the former politician.

where is she now

After the start of the full-scale war, Hermann hardly appears in public. Only in May 2022 was she noticed at the funeral of Leonid Kravchuk. In 2023, a woman similar to her was seen in the Spanish resort town of Benidorm. However, there is no official confirmation that she lives in Spain. It seems to have simply disappeared - like the entire era to which it belonged.
