Emma Malabuyo - female athletes but makes the world hat!

As one of the prominent faces of the Philippine gymnastics team at the Olympics 2024, Emma Malabuyo has played for the US national team for many years and achieved impressive international achievements since officially debt in 2016.


Emma Malabuyo, born in 2002, was one of the members of the American Gymnastics team from 2016–2019 and 2021. However, since 2023, she has participated in the competition and representatives of the Philippines' homeland in international competitions.

Be eligible to become a professional gymnastics from 13 years old

Born into a Filipino family in the US, Emma Malabuyo began to get used to this sport very early. In 2013, after her family moved to Texas, Emma was trained at Texas Dreams by two former world champions, Kim Zmeskal-Burette and Chris Burette. Two years later, the talented young girl was officially eligible to become a professional exercise.

At the age of 14, Emma became a member of the US team to attend the International Gymimix. She won the final bronze medal and two gold medals for the balance and exercises on the floor. After that, she achieved a series of impressive achievements in tournaments like The City of Jesolo Trophy, 2016 Secret U.S. Classic, 2021 Winter Cup, National Championships 2021, etc. In particular, in 2019, she helped the US team win the final at The City of Jesolo Trophy and herself won the final medal, the silver medal for the balance and exercise on the floor.

Persist over all difficulties

In 2018, Emma suffered a back injury after being selected to attend national tournaments. Therefore, she was unable to attend the U.S. tournament. Championships in 2018. In the spring of 2019, although she achieved a third place in the final at The City of Jesolo Trophy, she continued to have a fracture of left -baseball right before the U.S. tournament. Championships in the summer 2019.

Sharing with the media, Emma said that attending the Olympics was a dream since her childhood. Therefore, she has made great efforts for a long time and does not want to be disappointed or regretted. In recent times, injury has made her want to give up. However, the encouragement of the family, coach and the whole team helped her overcome difficulties to continue her journey.

Play for the homeland

In 2023, Emma decided to "join" the Philippines national team in international tournaments. At the Asian Championships 2023, she helped the Philippines to win the 5th position while she personally won the silver medal for the exercise on the floor. This was the highest result that a Filipino athlete has achieved at the Asian Championships at the time.

In 2024, at Cairo World Cup, Emma won a silver medal for the Exercise Exam on the floor. To achieve the condition of becoming the Philippines representative at the Olympics 2024, Emma attended the World Cup Series, but she only reached the third place in the Exercise section on the floor and was not eligible to participate in the 2024 Olympics as a Philippine athlete. After that, Emma attended the Asian Championships and won the final medal, eligible to attend the 2024 Olympics. However, Emma did not achieve the desired high achievement at the Olympics 2024. She reached 41 final position.

Continue to stick with the team of the University of California

Despite wearing the Philippine national team in international competitions, Emma is still committed to sticking with the team of the University of California. She played as a member of UCLA Bruins from 2022 to the present. The most outstanding achievement of Emma is to help the team win at Big Ten Championships and win a silver medal at NCAA Championships 2025.
