Recently, the 56th Miss Japan Beauty Competition was held in Tokyo, which was won by Ukrainian Karolina Shiino. The triumph of the 26-year-old beauty from Ternopol caused stormy discussions on the Internet. Skeptics are convinced that, despite the presence of Japanese citizenship, the participation of a girl with such an appearance completely contradicts the goals of the competition.

Carolina was born in 1998 in Ternopol, Western Ukraine. Parents divorced after the birth of their daughter. Soon, the mother married a Japanese named Shiino. The family moved to live in Japan when the girl was five years old. Carolina grew in the city of Nagoya. He speaks perfectly in Japanese. And although “linguistic and mentally” she feels like a Japanese woman, her Western appearance has always attracted special attention to compatriots.

Having received the crown, Carolina burst into tears and said that everything that happened to her was "like a dream." In the end, she is the first woman born in a non -Japanese family outside the country of Blooming Sakura, and winning such an honorary title.

This is what the new queen of the beauty of Japan wrote on the official website of the competition: “I wanted to be recognized as mine, therefore I decided to take part in the Miss Japan contest. In the future, I want to contribute to the creation of a society that appreciates diversity and does not judge people by their appearance. Now I work as a model where appearance is a product, but with my message I want to instill hope in the hearts of many people. The fact that I was finally recognized as a Japanese woman fills me with gratitude. ”

Despite Shiino's thanks, scandal quickly flared up on social networks. The reaction to the victory of the ethnic Ukrainian among the Japanese public was different. Some congratulated Carolina, considering her participation in the contest “Time Sign”. Others, on the contrary, were indignant, claiming that Miss Japan should have a completely different appearance. “Yes, this girl is beautiful, but this is not enough. If she were half a Japanese woman, of course, there would be no questions for her. But ethnically, she is a Ukrainian and was not even born in Japan, ”people write in the comments.

The judges were also not silent and admitted that they gave the main crown to Carolina without hesitation. “She speaks flawlessly and writes in Japanese. She is more Japanese than some of us, ”wrote the main organizer of the competition Ai Vad. In addition, the participation of girls with a “atypical appearance” should be considered as the possibility of rethinking of Japanese beauty.

The victory of Carolina Shiino occurred almost ten years after Ariana Miyamoto, whose mother Japanese, and father of the African American, won the title “Miss Japan”. This happened in 2015. It was then that the question was raised for the first time whether a woman of mixed origin had the right to win in the Miss Japan contest. In the same year, she introduced Japan at the Miss Universe contest and entered the ten most beautiful participants.
