The man who lives in full -time hotels says it is cheaper than renting

He has traveled in more than 25 countries while staying in luxury hotels, and he saves money.

From the cocovio-19 pandemic, the rent price In the United States, increased by almost 30%, according to Zillow's Report on the rental market of November 2023 . Pressure to not only be able to afford rent, but also other basic necessities such as grocery store and health care, has reached new heights. Many Americans are forced to leave major metropolitan cities like New York and San Francisco, while others have to abandon their comfortable studio apartments for more economical life situations with roommates.

Daniel George , a computer scientist working in artificial intelligence, knows this feeling too well. In 2021, he and his wife became full-time digital nomads working in hotel rooms across the United States and, finally, worldwide. The craziest part of its history? It spends roughly the same amount of money as standard - sometimes even luxurious - of the accommodation in shape as it has done on the rent, but now it is a globetrotter.

“We thought we would travel for a few months, then we settle in another city apartment. Traveling was more fun and less exhausting than we thought, and we started International travel booking , "George explains in a test for Internal business community .

Three years, the couple visited 25 counties and "spent less than we live in San Francisco and New York, and has not changed our sheets or released the garbage for years." They traveled everywhere, especially in Iceland, in Japan, Morocco, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Colombia, Peru, Dubai, India and Sri Lanka. AE0FCC31AE342FD3A1346EBB1F342FCB

By definition, George and his wife are professional travelers around the world, but they also have full -time jobs. To keep things easy, they work on normal opening hours during week weekdays and use their free time as well as weekends to explore. In cases where time zones are almost half or days of interval intervals, as in Japan, they use holiday days.

They find major hotel brands such as Marriott, Hilton or Hyatt, more reliable with regard to WiFi, and go only to their next accommodation on weekends or holidays. Because they have won "higher level hotel statutes" with such hotels, they have often awarded free room upgrades, daily breakfast and access to salons, which are useful for the work.

So how do they do it? Three words: credit card points.

"We earn around 16% of our accommodation costs directly compared to the hotel points," writes George. He also explains that when they pay a hotel with a credit card, they can expect to see 6 to 8% of the large total in credit card points.

"Using these points systems, we pay eight months of hotel costs and get about two months for free. We don't have to pay rent for the remaining two months each year since we spend up to four weeks to work conferences and about six weeks to visit our families, ”he shares.

They also take advantage of the registration bonuses of different credit cards. Collectively, they have 20 open credit cards, but as they always reimburse their balance, their credit scoring remains in perfect condition. George notes that some credit cards are also delivered with travel insurance, and others can help reduce the stress of foreign transaction costs among others.

"Before we start traveling constantly, we spent about $ 36,000 on rent per year - $ 1,500 per month per person," wrote George, adding elsewhere in his trial than their "total cost for [the hotel] for A year is around $ 36,000. " Keep in mind that hotels are often delivered with access to the gymnasium and a free meal, which are expenses not included in the $ 36,000 they paid alone for rent.

"The reservation of a hotel and a flight every few weeks was our normal news," he wrote. "After years in moving, we no longer find stressful trips. The plan is to continue traveling before starting a family."
