Paul and Joanne met in the early 1950s.
Paul and Joanne met when they were both in Broadway game Picnic in 1953. At the time, Paul was married to his first wife, Jackie Witte , since 1949. In 1958, they divorced and Paul married Joanne. They got married for 50 years until his death in 2008 at the age of 83. They also welcomed three children together: Melissa and her sisters, Nestlery And Claire Newman . Today, Joanne is 93 years old.

Melissa found love letters that Paul wrote at the start of their relationship.

"We had crossed torn bags. I remember just before one was about to be thrown away, I reached - there were butterflies and dead mice everywhere ... and I found The first 10 letters that my father ever wrote to my mother, "Melissa recalled. "It was also close to being thrown."
