'One Tree Hill' star Hilarie Burton says her 'psychotic' boss wrote an intimate scene with her

Cast and crew members have accused creator Mark Schwahn of sexual harassment.


The women of A tree hill have expressed their experiences with the series creator over the years Marc Schwahn . The show aired from 2003 to 2012 and in the years since, the producer has been accused of sexual harassment, including in a letter signed by 18 cast and crew members in 2017. Hilarie Burton , who plays Peyton Sawyer, is among those who claimed Schwahn harassed her and abused her power. And in a new episode of her podcast, she detailed one particular incident in which the creator, who she wasn't talking to at the time, entered into an intimate scene with her.

Burton shared the story on the podcast theater queens , which she co-hosts with A tree hill co stars Bethany Joy Lenz And Sophie Bush . During the conversation, the women did not refer to Schwahn by name, but instead referred to him as "Voldemort", in reference to the Harry Potter wicked. Continue reading to learn more.

Burton said Schwahn got into a scene with her.

On the August 21 episode of theater queens the hosts discussed an episode of season 5 of A tree hill entitled “Echoes, silence, patience and grace”. Burton said she was not on good terms with Schwahn at the time and believed he staged himself so she had to interact with him. The scene required him to give his character a hug.

"This episode was obviously interesting for me because I had to deal with the worst," Burton said. Bush chimed in, "Voldemort," and Burton nodded, "Voldemort, yeah." As Insider reports, hosts often refers to Schwahn by this name . ae0fcc31ae342fd3a1346ebb1f342fcb

The 41-year-old actor continued, "I wasn't talking to him in real life, so he wrote himself in the episode and wrote to me hugging him."

Burton's co-star called the decision "psychotic."

Schwahn previously appeared in a Season 4 episode of A tree hill . His character was a record store owner named Max. Burton's co-hosts agreed that he seemed to have rewritten himself in response to the current state of his relationship with Burton.

"It's so psychotic," Lenz said of Schwahn writing the embrace between his character and Burton's. "Can you imagine Shonda Rhimes Or Aaron Sorkin going on their own show?" Bush added.

"It was so scary," Burton said.

Later in the episode, Lenz noted that the scene featuring Max didn't even make sense. "It's so weird," she said. "Why the hell is Peyton talking to Max, the record store guy?"

Burton brought her father to work to support her.

Burton decided to have his father, Bill Burton , join her on set the day she was to shoot the scene with Schwahn. She noted that her brother was also on set and that the episode was directed by her then-boyfriend's father. Greg Prange .

"There's all these guys on set and it just wasn't enough, so I invited my dad to work that day, and my dad came and sat behind the monitor all day, which that was a little weird, right?" Burton called back. "Because he clearly wasn't there to be friendly. He was just a presence." She continued, "Between each take, I was going straight to the monitor and going to stand next to my dad, because you can't touch me, you can't drag me into a side conversation, you can't do anything unless I just pull the [expletive] and make jokes with my dad."

Burton explained that his father knew how to use whips and realized that the show's sound mixer, Michael Rayle , I also knew how to use them. So the two went to play with the whips his dad had in his car, which made for an intimidating display for Schwahn.

"Voldemort goes to the production office, where his office has a view of the parking lot," she recounted. "And my dad and Mike Rayle went into the team parking lot and pulled out some whips and started doing all these tricks and banging them really hard, so they're making all this noise… It was just like a message, like, 'Hey, don't.'"

Burton accused Schwahn of several instances of misconduct.

In November 2017, Burton accused Schwahn harassment and sexual assault. She claimed Variety that there were two incidents in which the A tree hill The creator kissed her without her consent, put his hand down her pants while they were at an event with his wife, and tried to give her a massage on set without her permission. She claimed that during the massage incident, she told him, "You're going to lose your job. You can't touch girls anymore." Burton said it made him "furious" and he yelled at her for half an hour in his office.

Burton and 17 other women who worked on A tree hill signed a letter in which they accused Schwahn of sexual harassment. A a similar letter was published by cast and crew members of the Schwahn show The Royals , which was still airing in 2017. Schwahn did not comment on the allegations and was fired from The Royals . He has not worked in Hollywood since and could not be reached to comment on Burton's new claims on the podcast.
