In a publicity interview with NBC News in 1981, Carvey and Lane were asked what it was like working with Rooney . Carvey described his co-star as "a very charming, down-to-earth guy", but Lane said, "He pulled a knife on me", before dutifully calling Rooney "the ultimate professional and who he is with very easy to work with."

But during an episode of 2022 The Jimmy Kimmel Show more than 40 years later, Carvey shared some filming stories this gave credence to Lane's initial comment, claiming the Hollywood legend complained nonstop about her days as Hollywood's biggest star and frequently pulled a gun out around her co-workers. "I mean, he was brilliant, but he had a .38 gun and he was waving it around," said the Wayne's World says the actor. Fitting into one of his signature impressions, Carvey impersonated Rooney, shouting, "They won't get me. If they come for me, I'll plug them." He added that Rooney walked the halls, frequently raving: "I was the number one star in the world. Can you hear me? Bang. [Sound of kisses.] World!"

In a podcast with Theo Von last year, Carvey recalled no more alleged .38-related antics . "He didn't like the script, he would pull it out and he would say, 'This script sucks!' - and he was waving that .38 all over the place," the actor said. He added that Rooney had also claimed that he intended to find the serial killer Juan Corona and "plug it full of holes".

He also said Rooney would throw his fortune in his face.

The gun wasn't the only unusual thing Rooney kept on him, according to Carvey. In an episode of fly on the wall , the podcast with which he co-hosts David Spade , Carvey said that Rooney would taunt him with the huge wads of cash earned from his resurgence doing a musical review on Broadway and then the sitcom. "He was doing sugar babies on Broadway he was getting $50,000 a week, and then on the TV show they were giving him $50,000 a week, and he had been broke for decades," Carvey recalled. "So he always had $5,000 on him. $ in cash and he put it under my face and said, "Do you think I can afford lunch?" » ae0fcc31ae342fd3a1346ebb1f342fcb

"I ended up working at Rockefeller Center, on the sixth floor, and on the eighth floor, I was Saturday Night Live ", he told Kimmel. "I would go up there on Thursdays and sit in the stands and watch Eddie Murphy and I would watch Joe Piscopo repeat. I thought, “I really, really want to go.
