5 colors that you should never wear together, stylists say

According to experts, these combos simply do not work - here is what to try instead.

A little black dress with a camel-colored trench coat, a pair of Blue jeans With a white t -shirt or a navy blue sweater with gray Chinos - these combos are classic for a reason: they merge two colors that complement each other perfectly. But just as some shades are supposed to be mixed, others can compete. This is why the stylists say that there are colors that you should never wear together.

Sally Samuels , fashion expert and design chief at Savile Row Company , recommends using the chromatic wheel for reference when you try to find that work that work. Generally, the colors that are next to each other or in front of the other tend to work well together - although there are exceptions to this. Certain colors that are opposed on the wheel, which are called complementary colors, can actually create too hard a contrast.

"In addition, wearing too many different colors creates a visually occupied or chaotic appearance, and does not allow the declaration documents to stand out," she adds. "Take three colors in your outfit to keep it consistent."

The next time you choose what to wear - whether for a dinner, a relaxed family outing or a formal event - there are color combos stylists, say that you will certainly want to avoid.

Huber Huber , a fashion expert, stylist / buyer and co-founder of Peony , never gets in black with navy blue - partly because these two equally dark colors are too close and do not create enough contrast.

If you opt for a neutral look, Huber recommends twinning black with gray. Or, you can wear it with bare or blushing pink for a more striking combination.

Purple and red

Violet and red are considered similar colors, because they are right next to each other on the chromatic wheel. That said, vibrating red and daring purple can compete for visual attention, creating a look that is overwhelming, according to Tracy Cheng , personal stylist and founder of the fashion blog Girl Share Advice .

While Huber says that lavender goes more easily with other colors, she notes that deeper and more brilliant purple can only work with certain shades, such as gray, white, black and beige.

Cheng, meanwhile, suggests combining red with blue instead. "They sit on each other on the chromatic wheel, creating a pleasant contrast when associated," she explains. "Blue and red come in various shades that complement themselves well. For example, a matching light sky blue shirt with dark edge pants creates a discreet but elegant look."

Yellow and green

Although yellow and green are beautiful colors that can instantly animate any outfit, Cheng says that it is best to choose one or the other when building a set.

"When they are worn together, they can create a discordant effect that does not please the eye," she said Better life . "The combination of these two colors can be too overwhelming because the two shades are quite bright and intense."

As an alternative, Cheng recommends carrying green with brown because they are both considered as tones of earth. "When these colors are combined, they create a harmonious palette that evokes a feeling of warmth, comfort and relaxation."

4
Brown and gray

Brown and Gray is another combo that does not offer enough contrast to create a certain aesthetic interest, according to Cheng.

"This means that the two shades are mixing, causing a dull appearance," she explains. "In addition, because brown and gray are both mute colors, the global effect is often dull and without interest."

The only exception? If you combine a very dark brown with light gray. Otherwise, Cheng rather recommends associating the brown with the navy instead.

"Brown adds heat to the freshness of the navy," she said. "The combination of hot brown tones with colors of the fresh navy creates a balanced contrast that is pleasant to the eye." If you follow this path, Cheng suggests bringing a clearer brown shade with a darker shade of the navy.

Although metal gold can be beautiful with brown, yellow does not always work with this color, explains Huber. The combo can eventually look muddy, or vibrant yellow can overwhelm the brown in a mute. AE0FCC31AE342FD3A1346EBB1F342FCB

"I would be twinned with cream for a neutral palette or with a shade of rose for a female look in the fall," explains Huber Better life . In spring and summer, try to wear brown with baby blue or light green.
