The Academy announced the new eligibility rules to the best film in 2020, explaining that they would be applied first for the 2024 fair. As indicated by Weekly entertainment , for a film to be nominated for the best film, it must meet two on four standards , who have all their own requirements.

The four standards cover the representation on the screen, the representation of the backstage, the access and the opportunities of the industry and the marketing / advertising. For example, the standard on the screen implies the actors who are thrown and the story told in the film, while the standard of access and opportunities implies development opportunities such as internship opportunities and training for Members of the team.

"Opening must widen to reflect our diversified world population in the creation of cinematographic films and in audiences that connect with them", President of the Academy David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in a press release at the time. "The Academy has committed to playing a vital role by helping to make this reality a reality. We believe that these inclusion standards will be a catalyst for an essential and lasting change in our industry."

Dreyfuss said the new standards of the "address" academy for minorities.

During an interview on May 5 on PBS ' Fire line with Margaret Hoover ,, Dreyfuss was asked about The new requirements of the best image. "They make me vomit," said the star in response. AE0FCC31AE342FD3A1346EBB1F342FCB

He continued by saying that the rules are an attempt to control and censor art.

"This is an art form," said the 75 -year -old man. "No one should tell me as an artist that I have to give in to the most recent and most recent idea of what morality is. And what do we risk? I must let life be life. And I'm sorry, I don't think there is a minority or a majority in the country which must be taken care of to like it. "

He thinks he should be allowed to play a black man.

Dreyfuss then recorded his attack that Blackface and the actors playing characters outside their own race fell in disgrace in Hollywood.

"You know, Laurence Olivier was the last white actor to play Othello. And he did it in 1965, and he did it in Blackface, and he played a black man brilliantly, "said Dreyfuss." I tell myself that I will never have the chance to play a black man? Does anyone else say if they are not Jewish, they shouldn't play The merchant of Venice ? Are we crazy? Do we not know that art is art? ""

Returning to the requirements of the Oscars, he added: "It's so condescending. It's so thoughtless and treats people and children."

"There should not be there," he replied. "Because it is condescending. Because that says that we are so fragile that we cannot hurt our feelings. We must anticipate our injured feelings, the feelings of our children hurt. Intimidate in the face."
